Girl Get Rid Of That Jerk (Williams and Shawn) novel Chapter 263

On January 10th, Allison was back at the firm, ready to dive into work. But her first day back had a little surprise in store.

Strutting into Summit & Vale Solicitors like she owned the place, Lillian made quite the entrance. Decked out in a swanky designer suit, with a limited edition Hermes bag swinging from her arm and her heels clicking confidently across the polished floor, she headed straight for Allison’s office.

The office door was wide open, and Lillian didn’t bother with the usual courtesy of knocking. She just waltzed right in.

Allison was mid-conversation on the phone. But as soon as she looked up and saw Lillian, her brows knitted together in mild irritation.

"Alright, let's wrap this up for now. Something's come up," she said, ending the call with a hint of annoyance.

Lillian flopped onto the sofa as though she owned the place, her bag landing unceremoniously beside her. She glanced around with a smug air. "This place is so tiny. Seriously, you call this an office?"

Without missing a beat, Allison hung up the phone and gave Lillian a blank stare. "What do you want?"

A sly grin spread across Lillian’s face. "Oh, didn’t I mention? I’ve invested in your firm. That makes me one of the silent partners—your boss, basically."

Allison’s face stayed calm, as if she’d seen this coming a mile away. "And?"

Lillian leaned in with a smile that didn’t reach her eyes. "Since it’s just us, let’s drop the pretense. Allison, I can’t stand you, you know?"

Allison took a casual sip of her water, unfazed. "Is that so? Well, the feeling’s mutual."

Lillian chuckled, dismissive. "Grandma always said you lawyers are sharp-tongued. All you can do is talk big in front of me. I only called you Allison because you were engaged to my brother. Did you really think you were that important?"

With a glint of triumph in her eyes, Lillian continued, "Oh, by the way, Grandma’s setting up blind dates for Joshua. You and him? Never gonna happen."

Lillian jumped to her feet, her face flushed with anger. "So what? I’d stay single for him forever! And you, you and Joshua are done!"

Allison’s heart gave a little quiver, a shadow of sadness flickering briefly in her eyes.

"Well, best of luck with that." Allison lowered her gaze to mask her emotions and started gathering her things.

"What are you doing?" Lillian demanded.

Allison didn’t bother with a reply.

She swiftly stood, opened the office door, and walked out, leaving Lillian behind in a whirlwind of her own making.
