Girl Get Rid Of That Jerk (Williams and Shawn) novel Chapter 261

"Didn't have a chance to let anyone know?" Joshua checked his watch. "It's getting late, and I need to grab these documents and head out."

Grandma Emily furrowed her brows, her tone tinged with a bit of reprimand. "Why don’t you stay for dinner before you go? If something crops up, I'll take care of it."

"That’s not going to fly," Joshua replied with his usual laid-back attitude. "You can’t represent the company on your own. Just wait, you'll probably get a call soon asking you to head back for a board meeting."

With that, Joshua left the group in the hall and headed upstairs, acting like he was the only one there.

Downstairs, the Walsh family exchanged puzzled glances.

Mr. Walsh was the first to break the silence. "Does Joshua not realize that tonight’s dinner was set up by both our families so he and Sarah could officially meet?"

Even though Mr. Walsh was two years older than Grandma Emily, he still showed respect by addressing her formally due to her status. His words were carefully chosen.

Grandma Emily’s displeasure was written all over her face. "Mrs. Walsh, what does your grandson mean by this? Sarah was right there, and he didn’t even acknowledge her. Is he pretending not to know, or is he genuinely clueless about the importance of tonight’s dinner?"

Lillian looked down, hiding the sarcasm in her eyes, inwardly sneering: What makes your granddaughter so special that my brother has to acknowledge her? Is she that desperate to get married?

Even though her grandson had publicly slighted her, Grandma Emily managed to maintain a forced smile while addressing the Walsh family’s concerns. "You’re misunderstanding. My grandson was probably just in a rush to grab something from the study and didn’t have time to greet anyone. I’ll introduce Sarah to him properly when he comes back downstairs."

Mrs. Walsh wanted to say more, but Mr. Walsh stopped her with a glance.

Lillian sat beside Grandma Emily and accidentally locked eyes with Faith.

Faith offered a polite smile.

Lillian, feeling a surge of jealousy, didn’t even bother to respond and quickly looked away.

But with this phone call, Joshua now had a solid excuse to skip the matchmaking dinner.

Grandma Emily replied, "Nothing’s wrong. Joshua wasn’t lying; there is indeed an urgent matter at the company. I just got the call."

Mrs. Walsh and Mr. Walsh exchanged a look, and Mrs. Walsh started to say, "Then..."

Faith’s expression was slightly tense. Was the matchmaking dinner she was looking forward to about to unravel?

As they spoke, Joshua had already grabbed his documents and was heading towards the door, seemingly unaware of everyone else.

"Joshua, hold on a second," Grandma Emily called out sternly.

Joshua turned around and waved the folder in his hand. "Grandma, you just got the call too, right? I’m not making this up; I really am busy."
