Girl Get Rid Of That Jerk (Williams and Shawn) novel Chapter 190

Lillian was putting on quite the show, tears streaming down her face like she was in a dramatic movie scene. "I'm so sorry, Allison. It was just an accident when I bumped into you. I'll replace your dress, I promise. Please, don't be upset with me, alright?"

She was laying it on thick, trying to look as pitiful as possible.

Allison, however, saw right through her act. She knew Lillian was just putting on a performance for Joshua and Emily. "Oh, what a perfect little act," Allison remarked dryly. "If I don't forgive you, I'll end up looking like the bad person here."

Emily was fuming, pointing a finger at Allison and turning to Joshua. "Joshua, you see how she's treating Lillian right in front of everyone."

Joshua frowned, gently lowering Emily's hand. "Grandma, let's wait for the security footage."

Lillian started to panic.

She ramped up her tears, acting as if she'd been seriously wronged.

The guests nearby began to murmur among themselves.

Even though they kept their voices low, a few snippets of their conversation reached Allison's ears.

"Isn't Miss Allison supposed to be the future bride of the Fisher family? Why is she having a spat with Mrs. Fisher?"

"Looks like Mrs. Fisher isn't too fond of her as a granddaughter-in-law."

"Yeah, Mrs. Fisher dotes on her granddaughter. Even if Lillian's adopted, she's been with the family for ages. Naturally, she's closer than an outsider. Miss Allison isn't even married into the family yet. How could she compare to Lillian?"

"Though Lillian's adopted, she's still considered a daughter of the Fisher family. Once Allison marries in, Lillian will be her sister-in-law. If she's already on bad terms with her and Mrs. Fisher, can she really secure her place as the Fisher family's lady?"

"Exactly, Miss Allison should really watch her temper. Just because her family has money doesn't mean she can push people around. Does she look down on Lillian because her mom used to be a housekeeper?"

Lillian kept her head down, pretending to dab at her eyes, hiding a sly smile.

However, Joshua suddenly raised his voice, his eyes cold and sharp. "Who says I'll side with Lillian? Who says this engagement won't happen?"

His voice was strong and filled with emotion, catching everyone's attention.

The murmurs instantly stopped.

Even the band didn't dare to continue playing.

The ballroom was eerily quiet.

Amidst everyone's astonished looks, Joshua took Allison's hand, his words clear and firm. "This is the girl I love, and marrying her has been my dream for years. This arrangement was my choice, and it's not about business."
