Allison paused for a split second, quickly swapping her look of irritation for a bright smile. Her expression shifted in a heartbeat. "Hey, Joshua, it’s you."

Joshua's eyes narrowed slightly. "Did you just mention Shawn?"

Allison didn't hold back and replied honestly, "Yeah, Shawn was just knocking on the door."

Joshua then noticed the breakfast bag by the wall. His voice was calm and unreadable. "Did he bring you breakfast?"

"Yes, I have no idea what got into him this early morning. I was sleeping soundly, and he woke me up." As Allison spoke, the disgust and irritation in her eyes were crystal clear.

Joshua asked, "How does he know your exact floor and room number?"

This question caught Allison off guard. Right, she had never told Shawn her floor or room number, so how did he know?

Allison replied blankly, "I don't know."

Joshua frowned. "Don't worry, Allie, I'll get to the bottom of this. Mind if I come in?"

Allison stepped aside, making room for Joshua to enter.

Once inside, Joshua took off his gray cashmere coat and casually hung it on the wall hook. Allison bent down to place a pair of men's slippers at Joshua's feet.

While Joshua was changing shoes, Allison tried to keep it casual as she asked, "Oh, by the way, Joshua, last night you mentioned you had something urgent to handle. What was that all about? Did you sort it out?"

Joshua paused, his tone steady. "It was about Sue."

Following Joshua into the living room, Allison asked, "Who took her? What was their motive?"

"This is why I didn't want you to worry," Joshua turned to her, his expression serious. "The people who took her are quite powerful. I suspect they were targeting me."

Joshua's brow furrowed, and he paused, his demeanor grave. "Last night... I got a call on my way to pick you up. They told me Sue was murdered."

Allison's eyes widened in shock.

"Our team found her and planned to interrogate her about who was behind it all, but before we could get any information, she was silenced."

Allison was horrified. Sue was guilty, and Allison despised her. But she believed in the justice system. Kidnapping and attempted murder charges should be dealt with by the law. Even if, by some stretch, she would face the harshest legal penalties, it should be through proper legal channels. Being murdered was too cruel a fate.
