Joshua gently laid Allison onto the bed. "You're worn out. Get some rest. I'll go check who that is."
As he opened the door, his brow knitted in concern. There stood Shawn, right outside. He had nearly forgotten Shawn was hanging around this little town. This was bound to get interesting.
Joshua had just stepped out of the shower, wrapped in nothing but a towel, with Allison’s kisses still visible on his neck and collarbone.
Shawn's face went pale, and the veins on his forehead stood out as he absorbed the scene. His breath hitched, eyes darkening with a looming storm.
"What did you do to Allie?" Shawn's hands clenched into fists, knuckles turning white with tension.
Joshua chuckled. "We're a couple. Take a guess."
Those words hit Shawn like the final straw. His chest tightened, his blood felt like it had turned to ice, and his head pounded fiercely.
He had tortured himself with the thought of Allison and Joshua having sex before, but that was just his imagination running wild. Now, seeing the undeniable marks on Joshua’s skin made his world momentarily collapse into darkness.
A sharp ringing echoed in his ears, accompanied by a stabbing pain in his heart, leaving him unsteady on his feet.
The next moment, Shawn charged like a wounded beast, eyes blazing with rage.
Joshua stepped back, skillfully dodging, then landed a solid punch on Shawn’s face, following it up with a fierce kick.
Agony erupted across Shawn's face, his mind buzzing with chaos. He stumbled back, slamming against the corridor wall with a dull thud.
After a moment of silence, Shawn’s confusion cleared. He seemed to find a justification for himself. Smirking, he appeared crazed and obsessive, blood staining his lips. "Of course I have the right. Because I love her! No one could love her more than I do!"
Joshua laughed, incredulous, raising an eyebrow. "Love her? Please, do you think anyone would believe your words?"
Shawn opened his mouth to retort, but was cut off by Allison's voice, sharp with anger and surprise, from behind Joshua.
"Shawn, what are you doing here?" She glared at him, eyes filled with the intensity reserved for a sworn enemy.
Hearing Allison’s voice, Shawn looked up. He first noticed the unusual flush on her cheeks, the arousal still in her eyes. Then, the glaring mark on her pale neck.
At that moment, Shawn finally understood what true heartache felt like. If he had held onto a sliver of hope that Joshua was lying about the lovebites just to mess with him, that hope was now shattered.
