Someone spotted Fiona and, knowing how tight she was with Tyler, approached her with hopeful eyes. "Fiona, you're pretty close with Tyler, right? Do you think you could have a word with him for us? We've been trying to get through to him all morning, but it’s like talking to a wall. Even though he’s put his phone on silent, the buzzing is driving us nuts."
Fiona frowned slightly, more annoyed with Tyler than her classmates. This wasn’t like him at all; not even the drama with the Johnson family had thrown him off his game like this.
She shot a glance at her classmates before heading to her seat. Tyler was there, hunched over, catching some Zs. Just as she sat down and tucked her backpack under the desk, his phone buzzed again. She saw it was a call from the Capital, labeled as someone from the Reynolds family.
Without skipping a beat, she picked up Tyler’s phone and answered. Tyler tried to stop her, but he was a second too late. The voice on the other end was loud and had that arrogant, threatening edge.
"Tyler, don’t think that just because you got into Central College, you can ditch us. We’re family by blood!"
The voice was furious, but Fiona stayed silent, letting them finish their rant.
"Tyler, you've put Yvenne in such a bad spot. We can’t even sell her for cash now; you've cut off all our options. If you don’t cough up the money in three days, we’ll torch the orphanage where you grew up!"
After listening, Fiona got the gist of Tyler’s predicament. She cleared her throat and calmly said into the phone, "This is Fiona."
