Fleeing the Nightmarish Father novel Chapter 9

"What?"

I never thought I would run into this cold, ruthless billionaire here. Jared’s boss.

The business tycoon Dariel Cannedy.

He’s a dangerous man. I can feel it deep in my bones.

His eyes, filled with too much resentment and darkness, but why is he talking to me?

I gripped the chair tightly, trying to steady myself.

"I said, do you know how easy it is to break the heart of someone you love?" he repeated, his anger rising.

He stepped closer, but I instinctively held up my hand to keep him back.

"Sir, please keep your distance."

"Why should I?" He mocked, crossing his arms over his chest.

"What do you mean?"

I raised an eyebrow in confusion, not knowing where I had encountered him, but his behavior made it seem like he knew me.

"If your boyfriend doesn’t stop getting too close to my wife, why should I?"

As he slapped the chair violently and whispered in my ear, my body involuntarily trembled.

"What—"

I turned to look at Jared, suddenly realizing that the two deceivers were about to get married.

Jared had been deceiving his girlfriend—me. And his soon-to-be wife, Veronica, had been cheating on him... with him.

"She... your wife?" I turned to look at the man, now understanding why he was so furious.

"Yes. Your boyfriend is about to marry my wife."

"You know what?" He paused, leaning in closer.

I shivered, feeling his minty breath on my face.

"I hate people like you."

His disdainful tone left me speechless. "What?"

"People like you, who pretend to be strong, act like they don’t care, as if they can forgive anything, but all the resentment and hatred are buried deep inside."

He fabricated a false assumption about me, which made me feel insulted.

"What’s wrong with you? Stop projecting other people's anger onto me. No matter what I am, who I am, it’s none of your business, Mr. Dariel Cannedy." I hissed back, fed up with him.

I was about to leave when Jared suddenly came to find me.

"Saphia."

I forced a smile. "Hmm?"

He raised an eyebrow in confusion, hands in his pockets, and took a step forward, mocking, "Why would I be following you?"

"Did you just forgive him that easily?" He leaned in, trying to find any trace of hatred on my face.

He clearly failed.

"Why should I tell you? What’s it to you?" I asked as politely as I could.

"Don’t you hate him?" He asked, his curiosity evident on his face, which made me impatient.

"No. Please stop annoying me," I muttered.

As he stepped back, he opened my car door, placing his hand on the roof to block me from getting in.

I placed my hands on my hips, eyes wide in disbelief.

"You know, let me help you hate them," he rasped, suggesting with a smirk.

I smiled smugly, casually listening to his words, unsure of what he could possibly do.

"Really? And how do you plan on doing that, Mr. Cannedy?"

He put on his sunglasses and flashed a wicked smile. A sense of unease crept over me.

He sat in the car, his eyes fixed on me, giving an unsettling reply that made me wonder what he was planning.

"You’ll know soon enough, Saafia Blooms."
