Fleeing the Nightmarish Father novel Chapter 7

It was a little too late for that kind of love, though.

I couldn't hold back my anger as the image of my sister lying in a pool of blood flashed in my mind. "For us? Don't make it sound so noble."

"You're not forgiving her because of us—you're doing it because she cheated on you!"

Dad went pale, as if he'd been struck.

" Saafia, how could you think that? This is my first time being a father, and I've made mistakes."

"But I've done a lot for you guys. You have to let me make up for it."

Seeing that I wasn't moved, Dad switched to playing the emotional card.

"For you both, I gave up my career. I had a great future at the hospital, but I let it go."

"For you, I didn't marry for years. Saafia Blooms, why can't you give me a chance to make things right?"

"To make up for my mistakes?"

His words felt so self-righteous, like I was the one being unreasonable for not forgiving him.

I looked at him, my voice cold.

"But you never gave us a chance. In the past life, you didn't even investigate the truth."

"You just destroyed our family, Dad."

"I'm done with this. I can't keep drinking from the same well of poison."

Dad froze.

"You gave us life, but we already paid that debt in our past life."

"Don't come around anymore. Just the sight of you makes me sick."

He left, and I never saw him again.

The walls of the hospital have ears, and soon Lila told us that what Dad had done to my sister had spread through the whole place.

Patients started talking about it.

People figured that if he couldn't even take care of his own daughter, how could he possibly care about strangers?

So, many began to boycott his appointments.
