Fleeing the Nightmarish Father novel Chapter 49

SAAFIA’S POV:-

Shit. Shit. Shit.

I could feel all the progress we made was fading, it was eradicating all because I spoke some words in a spur of anger back then.

Because of my few mindless words I never thought I would lose everything. She didn’t think twice before telling everyone.

She didn’t think about her brother’s image either.

“Dammit. What should I do?” I muttered, pacing around the room after changing my clothes.

Dariel worked hard to clear up his name and she smeared it. And the thought of what he would do to me was frightening me.

‘Is he going to hurt me physically?’ I thought worriedly, chugging some water to calm myself. Pushing my hair behind from distress.

Some time passed and my fear was increasing. Sitting on the bed, I was clutching the sheets, before I knew it, he entered holding a hint of dark, malevolent eyes.

“D-Dariel…” Murmuring hopelessly, I got up, clutching his sleeves. Narrowing my eyes, tears recollected.

Holding a stoic face, he inhaled sharply, removing my hand slowly. My heart cracked when he didn’t bother to look and took off his coat.

“Please, trust me, I didn’t do anything, Sam came to me, he said those things, he tried to touch me.”

In a broken tone, I stood behind as he hung his clothes and opened a few buttons of his shirt with a dead look.

“I might not have believed in you but I believe in what I see. Sam won’t come near you again.” He muttered, running his hand through his hair, scattering them over his heart.

He was about to leave but I held his shirt from behind. If he was cold like always I would have been at ease but the disappointment on his face was clenching my chest.

I was not what he was thinking.

“And I am sorry about Jacey. I was angry back then, I didn’t think-” I whispered but seemingly Jacey’s words had pierced his heart.

Growling, he yanked my hand away. Flinching I moved back when he came near with wrath flashing in his eyes.

“That she would make a show of our marriage and show your face to me that you are just like the rest of the world?” He growled, glaring at me.

“Don’t say this. I was not thinking back then.” I whispered, shaking my head in denial.

He scoffed, holding his side. A hint of hurt flickering, pressing his teeth with a clenched jaw.

“You have proven. There is only me for me. Not you, not anyone, just me. I have you only by name,”

My eyes widened when he said such a drastic thing. After endlessly trying to assure him of my sincerity, that was all I got to hear?

Only by name…?

“No, Dariel-”

A tear rolled down my cheek, my hands began to shake. Watching the emotions I managed to induce in him falling apart.

I tried to come close, hoping he would listen but he put his hand in between to stop me from closing distance anymore.

“Enough, Missus Cannedy, I have heard enough. Don’t force me to do anything I might regret doing. Go to sleep.”

Jacey’s one action ravaged my home, the trust he began to hold, she shattered it all.

“Please…”

I tried to call him but holding a stern look, he rolled his eyes off. Not paying attention to my teary gaze and walking away, leaving me all alone in the room for the rest of the night.

When he left, I stumbled on the bed, covering my face with my hands with tears smearing across my cheeks.

“Damn you, Jacey…” I whispered, heartbroken.

For her revolting partner, she put my marriage at stake. How close we were getting and she…

‘I won’t forgive you for this, Jacey.’

Thinking sorrowfully, I spent the rest of my night alone in the room with a heavy heart.

I, who had stopped hurting anyone, who made myself the kindest one, disheartened my own husband.

“When will you be leaving?”

Her mouth gaped, not believing he was letting her go, “Aren’t you going to stop me?” She asked, shocked.

“I treasure my home’s peace too. Nor do I prefer shameless men in my household.” He growled, glaring at Sam which shut his mouth and caused him to look down.

I couldn’t help but to look up at him, speaking what I couldn’t. A strange expectant sensation began to arise in my chest, staring at his face.

My heart skipped a beat, wanting to hold his arm but I refrained myself and continued to lock my gaze with his.

“What is wrong with you, Dariel? If it was Veronica, you would have done the worst to her. Why are you not teaching her a lesson?” Jacey continued with a snarl, pointing her finger at me.

My breaths hitched as I hid behind his back. Those words of hers scared me. Dariel looked over his shoulder at me and sighed.

“Whatever I do to her is not your concern. You have screamed about my personal life to everyone already.” Dariel taunted seriously, giving her a glare which… startled her?

“Dariel, I am sorry about it. I was angry.” Becoming afraid instantly, she moved back, gulping as I had no idea.

What did he do?

Biting her bottom lip, she looked down, becoming timid and frightened of her brother in an instant. I couldn’t believe what he did to make her feel like that.

Dariel also noticed her intimidation and sighed loudly, placing his hand over her head.

“Take care. You are welcome here anytime you want. It’s your brother’s home after all. You can return whenever you want.” He blessed her and climbed the stairs.

Forgetting everything, I ran after him, calling his breathlessly,

“Dariel-”

Putting his hand in the air dominantly, he ordered coldly, “I am exhausted. I need to sleep.”

“At least have dinner.” I whispered only to hear his harsh reply, leaving me alone.

“I am not hungry. Don’t bother me now.”
