DARIEL’S POV:-
‘Now I think she did the right thing by leaving you!’ Shut up. Shut up.
I grit my teeth when her face sobbing, hitting my chest came to mind. My jaw clenched. I was in the hall, my one leg resting over the other, opening another button of my shirt.
I was already stressed because of work and my image I ruined by sending my employee Jared to jail and coming here, I ended up frightening her as well.
“Uh… Sir?” Sam called, noticing the stern expression on my face.
“Hmm?” I hummed, leaning my head back, rubbing my temples.
“Are you alright?” He asked, arching an eyebrow as I only hummed in return.
“You better keep Jacey happy at all costs.” I warned him, shifting my gaze to him.
“Yes, Sir.” He nodded quickly, sitting farther away from me. He was obviously intimidated by my very presence.
But, at the moment my only concern was Saafia. The sound of her sobs was echoing in my mind. I frightened her in the lift as well.
“I.. will go and see Jacey.”
I couldn’t help it, I had made myself in a way that everyone around me was only afraid of me.
Including her.
‘That is not entirely my fault, she should have thought as well.’ I thought sternly.
The moment I looked up with my heavy eyes, I saw Saafia waving her hand at Jacey on the first floor, turning to leave for our room.
Getting up instantly, I ran after her. She was in the room, brushing her hair. Swallowing hard, I closed the door behind me and walked closer.
“Saafia, listen.” I called her in a hesitant tone, standing behind her.
I was about to place my hand on her shoulder but she got up, maintaining her distance from me.
“Please, Mr. Cannedy. Stay away from me. You have frightened me enough.”
Her cold voice came out, putting her hand in the air to stop me. Making a fist, I pulled my hand away, averting my gaze.
“You… should have told me.” I breathed out.
“You do know what type of man you are, don't you?” She chuckled dryly, folding her arm while throwing reality on my face.
“From where do you think I was supposed to ask when? When you can doubt me because of a damn painter then you can assume anything.”
I lowered my gaze. I couldn’t help it, my body acted on its own out of habit. My intentions weren’t to fear her which I did… again.
Moving back, she narrowed her eyes in dejection. Sitting on bed while hanging her head low.
“...Why do you always end up disappointing me?”
She whispered sorrowfully. The anguish which flashed in her eyes made my chest clench. I stare at her face, words at the edge of my tongue yet refusing to come out.
Curling my lips down, I brought her hand closer to my chest.
“Why are ‘you’ like this, Saafia? Who are you to know about me? Why are you trying in the first place? Do you think I didn't notice?” I asked in disappointment.
She knew she wouldn’t gain anything, that this marriage would result in failure yet..
“Stop coming near me. Stop acting like a wife. Stop it. You will only hurt yourself.” I sighed, hoping to make her understand.
Frowning, she pulled away from me. My hands missed her warmth but I didn’t react and straightened my back. The second I was about to move my empty hand back, she held them.
“I didn't marry for fun. As long as we are in this relationship, you have all my honesty, Mr. Cannedy.” She whispered, hoping ‘I’ would understand.
“Stop it. People like you die miserably in this world. Things are not as beautiful as you think.” I murmured tenderly but since our perspective about the world were the same?
Our personalities, our emotions were contrary to each other, she scoffed, pulling away roughly from me as she got up.
“You hold to your point of view and I shall stick to mine.”
I opened my mouth to call her but she left me all alone in the room and I couldn’t shift her mind. All I could do was to watch her leave because our worlds were miles apart.
Shaking my head, I changed into my casual wear and went down for dinner. Saafia didn’t talk to me but thankfully she talked sweetly with Jacey.
She was how she is with her.
My eyes were compelled to look at her, watching her talk, laughing slightly with her. I had no idea what they were talking about, I didn’t pay attention and continued to stare at her from time to time.
