Chapter9
She stayed up late last night, and she didn’t have to get up early to go to the morning market for fresh veggies or to cook a big breakfast with four dishes and a soup for Brayan.
She made some instant noodles at home and ate them happily. After she was full, she went to the bank, filled out a check for 1.6 million dollars, and noted that it was for medical expenses.
After leaving the bank, she went to Highland Cafe for a lunch date with Lydia.
After she got married, to focus on being a good housewife for Brayan, she basically stopped hanging out with all her classmates and friends. She hadn’t seen Lydia for three years.
When she thought about how she spent the last three years of her youth, she felt like flipping herself off.
Jennifer sat at the spot she had booked ahead of time, waiting for Lydia.
Lydia now taught singing at a pretty famous training school in Nexford. Jennifer figured Lydia invited her out to catch up and hook her up with a job.
Sure enough, soon after Lydia got there, she mentioned that their school needed a piano teacher.
“Lydia, thanks,” Jennifer said with a laid–back smile, waving her hand. “But I promised myself I’d never play the pi- ano again, and I’ve already found a new gig.”
“Oh?” Lydia asked, curious. “Is it a jewelry design company? It fits your major!”
Jennifer waved her hand again. “No! I didn’t finish college, and those companies want degrees.”
“But there aren’t many jobs out there without degree requirements these days!” Lydia whispered, then couldn’t help but stick up for Jennifer. “Brayan is such a jerk. He cheated on you, and you left with nothing. If it were me, I’d get millions out of him to make up for all the time I wasted!”
Jennifer was trying not to laugh. Then her phone lit up with a new WhatsApp message.
“Got to be from Brayan. Let’s see how I can roast him!”
But when Jennifer opened it, it wasn’t from Brayan.
While she was typing back, she said to Lydia, “Thing is, I don’t have proof that Brayan cheated.”
It didn’t matter if Brayan had been physically unfaithful. His heart was definitely gone. He had even given up on his
kid.
As she thought about the baby who had only lived for two months in her belly before being killed by its own dad, her face got colder.
