The Ex-Husband's Apology (by Sebastian Grey) novel Chapter 25

Chapter25

“Give me a second. I’ll ask around.”

Jennifer tilted her head in puzzlement, watching him fiddle with his phone. After a while, Jasper snapped his fingers.

“All set. Just wait for my news tomorrow. I know someone at the court. I’ve set up a meeting with them for tomorrow. In your case, it shouldn’t be hard to resolve.”

“Thank you. But…”

Jennifer appreciated Jasper’s intention to help, but she had her

concerns.

The LeBlanc Group held immense power. Even if Jasper knew someone in the courthouse, they might not dare step in. And if they did, they risked offending Brayan. Jennifer didn’t want to drag anyone down with her.

Jennifer kept these thoughts to herself, but Jasper could read her expression well enough. He didn’t make any promises. He just said he’d talk to his friend after their meeting tomorrow and told her not to worry about it.

The next day, Jasper didn’t even show up for work at the Juvenile Detention Center. When Jennifer asked the director, she was told he’d taken the day off–to go to the courthouse and inquire about a matter that would affect the rest of his life. Jennifer was amused by the way he put it.

Back in the office, Jennifer stayed behind her desk, sorting out paperwork until lunchtime. Outside, the thunderstorm had gotten

She wasn’t particularly afraid of thunder, but today was different. Her office was tucked away at the far end of the second–floor hallway. Now that it was lunch hour, most of the staff had left. After all, this place was more or less a prison, and the atmosphere was oppressive. Even during short breaks, the staff did whatever they could to get away for a bit.

Only two officers were on duty, and based on Jennifer’s experience, they were most likely napping. The whole building felt eerily empty, and a sudden thunderclap was enough to startle anyone.

As a counselor, Jennifer had to stay on call, so she didn’t go out for lunch. She’d ordered food delivery instead.

Her phone showed that the delivery had arrived.

Jennifer was just about to message the delivery guy when someone knocked on her office door.
