She took out her phone, wanting to tell Brayan the news.
The phone kept beeping, and she felt excited but also nervous.
Brayan would be happy, right?
Before last night, she wouldn’t have even thought twice about that.
Finally, the call got through.
“Brayan, 1…”
“I’m in a meeting. Don’t call unless it’s important.”
The call ended right away, and all Jennifer could hear was the busy signal.
The cold wind made her feel kind of empty inside. She took the phone away from her ear, and just then, a news alert popped up.
The headline said: “The LeBlane Group’s Heir Shows Up at the Velvet Rose New Product Launch, Spends a Lot of Money to Make His Lady Smile.”
Jennifer’s heart skipped a beat.
There was only one heir to the LeBlane Group, and that was Brayan.
And the high–end brand VelvetRose’s launch was right in Nexford,
Jennifer’s fingers were shaking a bit, partly because she was feeling a little cold.
When she opened the news, Brayan was easy to spot in the picture.
He was handsome and tall, with long, straight legs, and he wore a suit that looked sharp and fancy. He was the kind of guy who always looked great in group photos.
In the past, whenever Jennifer saw news about Brayan, she would look at the pictures for a long time because he was good–looking.
But this time, she closed the webpage fast.
On a whim, she checked her Instagram and saw that Ronan Palmer had just posted something new.
Ronan was Brayan’s high school classmate.
“VelvetRose’s classic pink diamond necklace, limited to only ten pieces worldwide, and now Brayan’s girl has got one
too!”

The photo showed only the girl’s fair neck, with the dazzling pink diamond necklace around it.
Whoever Ronan was calling “Brayan’s girl,” it sure wasn’t Jennifer.

Jennifer put away the ultrasound report and took a taxi home, her lower belly still aching a bit.
Once home, she remembered she hadn’t bought groceries yet, so she went out and bought all the things Brayan liked. When she got back, she washed the veggies, picked them, and started cooking. Before she knew it, it was evening.
Around nine, Brayan came home.
“I forgot to tell you, I had a business dinner tonight and I’ve already eaten.”
