Chapter 25

It was not that he didn’t want to sleep, but he failed to fall asleep as he lay in bed.

Although he didn’t sleep with Iris before, he fell asleep quickly after making love to her.

Now, in the same bed, he lay awake all night.

At first, he thought he would get used to Iris’s absence in a few days.

But reality had other plans. It was getting worse.

Leaning back in his chair, he rubbed his temples, which throbbed from sleep deprivation.

Hearing the secretary’s voice, he popped his eyes open and glanced at the envelope.

“What is it?” he asked gruffly.

The secretary kept her head down and said carefully, “I have no idea. It requires your personal opening.”

Heriberto’s mood had been so bad lately that everyone in the office behaved cautiously, terrified of repeating Mara’s mistake and getting yelled at.

Mara had long been his right–hand woman.

Frowning, Heriberto tore open the envelope and pulled out the contents.

His throbbing temples nearly exploded when he saw the bold letters “Divorce Agreement.”

He pulled a long face.

The secretary peeked at his expression and staggered back.

“Get out,” Heriberto snapped.

“Yes.” The secretary fled.

Heriberto glanced at the divorce agreement. He didn’t even open it and slammed it onto his desk. Snatching his phone, he dialed Iris’s number.

His hand trembled with rage, the veins bulging.

On the other end, Iris was enjoying a lavish breakfast with Danica and Nathaniel, laughing and chatting merrily.

Heriberto’s call cut through the cheer like a knife.

“I’ll get it,” Danica offered, reaching for Iris’s phone.

Chapter 25

She stayed at Bluehaven Estates with Iris the night before.

“Don’t!” Iris stopped her and said, “He’s calling to talk about the divorce.”

She smiled reassuringly at Danica and Nathaniel. “Don’t worry. I can handle it.”

“Fine.” Danica handed back the phone and said, “But don’t let him walk all over you. I’ll despise you if you do.”

“I got it.” Iris took the phone and headed to the balcony outside the restaurant.

The balcony was spacious, and there was a sofa.

Iris sat down and picked up the call.

“Iris, what do you mean?”

Through the phone, Heriberto’s question boomed with fury, but Iris remained eerily calm and said, “As you wish, Mr. Hale. Let’s finalize the divorce as soon as possible.”
