Clearly, Iris and Nathaniel had just enjoyed breakfast together.
What did that mean?
They were living together, possibly sharing a bed.
And what about Iris’s unborn child…
Heriberto’s anger boiled over..
Iris seemed oblivious to his mood. She glanced at Mara, raised her eyebrows, and said, “Ms. Caine, you accused me of stealing. I’m curious. What did I steal that brought Mr. Hale here to scold me?”
Nathaniel walked in, pulled out a chair next to her, and sat down. “Ira, don’t listen to her nonsense. I’ll call security.”
“Don’t bother, Nathaniel. I don’t think Mr. Hale is here to cause trouble,” Iris said with a smile.
Then she looked at Heriberto. “Right, Mr. Hale?”

Mara again.
Mara had been hostile toward her ever since she married Heriberto.

Iris had endured it for nearly three years. Now she was about to divorce Heriberto, and Mara must be eager to take her down.
If she weren’t still technically married to Heriberto, Mara would have buried her alive.
She didn’t care about Mara’s attacks and slander now. The only thing that mattered was Heriberto’s attitude.
If Heriberto accused her of stealing, then she admitted it.
