Chapter 301
Chapter 301
Noticing Anastasia’s stare, Megan casually stepped in front of Jasper. “Anastasia, your little crush is written all over your face. You’ve got one guy but you’re still thirsty for another. What’s next, aiming for the moon?”
Sharpson knew Megan could be brutal, but he hadn’t realized she’d trash–talk both his daughters like this.
He started to step forward, about to say something.
But Whitney seemed to read his mind and grabbed his arm, shaking her head.
“Valeria’s in deep shit right now, possibly dying,” Whitney whispered so only he could hear. “If you piss off Mrs. Hale now, we’re all screwed.”
Sharpson quickly ran through the potential consequences and decided not to defend Anastasia.
“Sorry, but I couldn’t care less about your mess,” Anastasia said coolly. “Though whatever went down, the whole hospital’s gossiping about it. Only trash like you could pull something this embarrassing.”
“You little bitch, what did you just say?!”
Megan raised her hand to slap Anastasia.
But before she could connect, two hands shot out to stop her.
The one from behind Anastasia was faster, blocking Megan’s swing.
When Megan saw Cassian, her pupils contracted, but she tried to play it cool. “Cassian, you-”
Cassian shoved her hand away coldly. “We’re not friends.”
Megan’s face cycled through about five different shades of humiliation. Cassian wasn’t giving her even a shred of respect.
But what really pissed her off was that other hand that had reached out!

She’d given birth to Jasper and raised him–she’d recognize his hand anywhere. That second hand had definitely been his.
Sure enough, when she spun around, there he was.
“Jasper, what the hell do you think you’re doing?” Megan hissed.
Valeria was fighting for her life in surgery, and he was white–knighting for another woman?
This clusterfuck was already out of control, and now it was getting worse.
“Mom, let’s not make this any more of a shitshow than it already is,” Jasper said through clenched teeth. “You know how much heat I’ve been taking lately.”
Megan’s expression shifted.

Chapter 301
Right–she’d almost forgotten that Cassian had been systematically destroying Jasper’s life recently.
Megan whipped around to face Cassian. “Control your woman. Don’t let innocent people get caught in your crossfire.
“Maybe train your mutt first and stop him from humping everyone’s leg,” Cassian fired back.
With that, Cassian walked away with Anastasia and Elisabeth.
“Sorry I took so long,” Cassian told them. “Parking was a nightmare.”
“If you hadn’t shown up, I would’ve gone after that bitch myself. Absolutely unbelievable. Does she think my Anastasia doesn’t have anyone in her corner?” Elisabeth said, then broke into a harsh coughing fit.
She was livid, absolutely livid!
Anastasia quickly rubbed Elisabeth’s back. “Grandma, I’m totally fine. People like that are all bark and no bite–they’d never actually do anything.”
“Let’s grab your meds and then get some brunch,” Cassian suggested.
“Perfect! I’m dying for some eggs Benedict,” Elisabeth said.
“Done.”
“And maybe some of those cute little French pastries,” Anastasia added.
“Whatever you want,” Cassian said.
Anastasia turned to her grandmother. “What about you, Grandma?”
Elisabeth was a sucker for French pastries, and she knew exactly which ones were worth ordering.
According to Anastasia’s mom, Elisabeth had lived in Paris for a few years before marrying her grandfather and moving to
New York.
“That sounds divine, though finding authentic French pastries is nearly impossible these days. Back in my time, everything was made fresh and wheeled around on little carts. You had to practically fight other customers for the good stuff.”
“Now everything’s mass–produced, so it just tastes like cardboard.”
“We should hit up H–Garden,” Cassian said. “Yinsen just poached this amazing French pastry chef from some Michelin–starred place. They’re doing a soft opening, and everyone’s been going crazy over it.”
“Oh, we absolutely have to try that.”
Actually, the French pastry chef had been Cassian’s idea.
Last time they’d brought Elisabeth to H–Garden, she’d mentioned that their lemon tart reminded her of ones from this little café in Montmartre, and she’d gotten all nostalgic. So Cassian had suggested Yinsen hire a proper French chef.
When they got to H–Garden, Elísabeth specifically asked to sit in the main dining room instead of getting a private booth–she wanted the full experience.

Sure enough, servers were wheeling around pastry carts while customers crowded around to see what was available. People were walking away with huge smiles and armfuls of treats,
“What’s calling to you, Grandma?” Anastasia asked.
“Definitely some croissants, macarons, éclairs, and maybe those adorable little fruit tarts,” Elisabeth said.
“I’m on it!”
Cassian tagged along to help carry everything, worried Anastasia might burn herself on the warming stations.
“Your grandmother really knows her food,” Cassian observed.
Anastasia grinned. “Are you kidding? She used to live in Paris.”
“Then she moved to New York with Grandpa.”
“So Elisabeth’s originally French?” Cassian asked.
Anastasia shrugged. “Honestly, I’m not sure about all the details.”
