Chapter 281
“She had her own dreams–she wanted to write amazing travel blogs. Eventually she started this super successful blog that now has millions of followers. Thank God she made it!”
Sharlene’s eyes were full of envy as she told this story.
Ana wondered why she’d never known about these industry realities.
Maybe in recent years, Jasper hadn’t wanted her involved in business decisions, so he’d deliberately kept her sheltered like a delicate flower in an ivory tower. She’d thought she was happy, trapped in the illusion Jasper had created for her.
That’s why she had no idea about these unwritten rules.
“I know where my skill level is. I just wanted you to take a look. I don’t expect you to actually like my designs, but if you did, I’d want it to be genuine.“
Sharlene wasn’t feeling confident, but if she couldn’t show Ana, who else could she turn to?
“Don’t worry, I’ll give you my honest assessment,” Ana assured her.
Sharlene looked at Ana gratefully. “Thank you.”
“Don’t mention it.”
Ana kept her word. After finishing her current projects, she started reviewing Sharlene’s designs.
When Sharlene came back from Peter’s desk, she looked down and unhappy. Seeing Ana was busy, she didn’t want to interrupt.
But Ana noticed Sharlene’s return and pulled her chair over. “Sharlene, your designs are really good! They’re ready for production.”
Sharlene was stunned, staring at Ana in disbelief. Her lips moved, but no words came out for a long moment.
“Ana, really? But…”
Sharlene looked at Ana hesitantly.
“But what?” Ana asked.
Sharlene forced a smile. “Peter just tore me apart. Said I’m clumsy and can’t even handle simple tasks, let alone become an independent designer. He said it’ll never happen in my lifetime.”
Sharlene didn’t want to badmouth Peter, but she was genuinely hurt.
Since Ana said her designs were good, she couldn’t help wondering if Ana was just being nice because of their friendship.
If that was the case, it really wasn’t necessary.
“So Ana, you don’t need to sugarcoat things. Just tell me the truth–I can handle it!”
Ana paused. “Sharlene, why would you think your designs aren’t good? I never lie about work. Good is good, bad is bad. I’m just telling you the truth.”
She continued, “If you don’t believe me, I’ll go to Vincent right now and have him send your designs to production. We can launch them in Rhodes Global stores.”
“Ana, don’t do anything rash!” Sharlene still thought Ana was just trying to cheer her up.
It was nice enough that Ana said her designs were decent–but actually making them into products for retail? Impossible!
Here, designers got criticized every day. Nothing was ever good enough for Vincent. She’d never heard him say a single positive word.

I’m not just trying to make you feel better! You lack confidence in your own work because certain people are deliberately modermining you TA want to keep you down for two reasons: first, you’re an incredibly useful assistant smart and afficient. Second, this industry is already overTIO and you’d be another competitor–a strong one at that. If you were in their position, would you be happy about it?”–
Sharlene thought about it. “If it were me, I think I could handle it. When others are strong, you work harder to catch up and become strong yoursel
“If everyone thought like you, there wouldn’t be so much corporate backstabbing.” Ana said.
Ana selected eight designs from Sharlene’s work. “You gave me twelve designs, but I think four have minor flaws that could be perfected. So I take these eight to Vincent for now.”
“Wow, eight designs! That’s way better than I expected. I thought maybe one would make the cut.”
Ana smiled. “Why do you have so little confidence in yourself?”
Ana went to find Vincent. Peter walked over with his usual snide attitude. “You don’t seriously think Ana’s actually going to help you, do you?”
Sharlene looked at Peter with displeasure. “What, would you help me instead?”
Peter spoke condescendingly. “Of course. I’ve been at this company a long time and have a good relationship with Vincent. Just hand over those designs to me, and I guarantee you’ll make a lot more money.”
Sharlene was about to respond when Peter cut her off.
“You don’t need to answer right away. Wait until Ana comes back, okay?”
“No thanks. I only trust Ana,” Sharlene said firmly.
Peter’s expression darkened with displeasure. Through gritted teeth, he said, “Incredibly stupid. Don’t come crying to me later.”
Just then, Ana emerged from the office, looking angry.
“Ana?” Sharlene asked tentatively.
Peter smiled smugly at Sharlene. “See? I told you she wouldn’t succeed. Now do you believe me?”
Sharlene bit her lip and said nothing.
“What are you spouting off about?” Ana snapped at Peter.
“Dogs can’t spit out ivory,” Ana said coldly.
Peter’s eyes flashed with anger. “Ana, don’t get too cocky. Someday you’ll be packing up and leaving here in disgrace.”
Ana raised an eyebrow, completely unfazed. “I’m actually curious to see who leaves first–you or me.”
Peter snorted. “We’ll see.”
