Anastasia checked her watch. This had gone on long enough.

This was it—time to head home and let Sonia enjoy the lovely “care package” she’d arranged for herself.

The sounds coming from the warehouse were getting harder to listen to–Sonia’s screams mixed with other noises that made Anastasia’s stomach turn.

Just as she was about to leave, she spotted a figure rushing toward the building.

It was Sonia’s manager, Jenny, with another woman trailing behind her. They were heading straight for the warehouse.

Anastasia watched for a moment, then turned and walked away.

Cassian had been taking a call and missed most of the action. When he returned, Anastasia was already ready to go.

They left together.

In the car, Cassian asked, “Did you see who was behind it?”

Anastasia considered for a moment, glancing at him before answering, “I saw Sonia and her manager…”

She wanted to gauge his reaction.

Cassian’s expression didn’t change. He just gave a quiet “hmm” and drummed his fingers twice on the steering wheel, lost in thought.

Anastasia stole a glance at him. He seemed completely unfazed, so she looked away, the faintest hint of a smile playing at her lips.

Cassian caught her expression out of the corner of his eye, his gaze darkening. “She made her choice. Now she deals with the consequences.”

Anastasia pressed her lips together and said nothing more.

Her feelings about this were complicated, to be honest.
