Anna’s POV:
Before I could protest, he lowered his head and captured my ender.
lips in a kiss. When he finally released
me, he cradled my face between his hands, his voice deep and tender.
“I once thought you had something with Seth, and I was insanely jealous… But the truth is, I’ve always been drawn to you… Which means no matter what happens, you remain beautiful to me. Especially when things aren’t your fault, when others covet your beauty.”
Tears welled in my eyes as emotion overwhelmed me. “Thank you, Blake…” I whispered, my voice trembling slightly as I wrapped my arms around him tightly, letting my tears fall freely.
When we returned to our seats, I felt Blake’s familiar cologne envelop me, bringing a sense of security I hadn’t realized I’d been missing.
Blake’s POV:
I kept my arm firmly around Anna as we walked back toward the auction hall. The weight of her against my side felt right–necessary, even.
As we approached the entrance, I spotted Ethan standing rigidly beside Emily. His expression was strained as he nodded in acknowledgment.
I returned his nod with a slight inclination of my head, keeping my expression neutral. Anna, however, tensed beside me, her brow furrowing as she looked at him.
“Can you please avoid any contact with Ethan in the future?” she whispered, leaning closer to me. “I get angry every time I see him now!”
I couldn’t help the small smile that tugged at my lips. Bending down, I murmured into her ear, “Stay by my side no matter what happens. Don’t panic.” I squeezed her shoulder gently, wanting her to know I would handle everything.
Ethan glanced at Emily, his expression complicated with unspoken emotions, before abruptly turning and walking away.
Emily remained frozen in place, her shoulders trembling slightly as she stared after him.
Anna’s POV:
I immediately went to Emily, taking her hand in mine. “Em, are you okay?” I asked, searching her face with concern.

She forced a smile that didn’t reach her eyes. “I’m fine. Frank didn’t do anything to you, did he?:
I shook my head. “You don’t have to pretend with me,” I said softly.
Emily’s eyes darted to Blake, and her quietly, starting to turn away.
expression grew awkward. “I think I should head back, she said
Suddenly, she stopped and looked back at Blake. “Blake, take good care of Anna, okay? Otherwise, I’ll take her away with me, and none of you will ever find us.”
There was something in her eyes–a mixture of regret and wistfulness that seemed to reference something from the past.
Blake’s face transformed instantly, his expression alarmed as he tightened his grip on my hand until his knuckles turned white. “You wouldn’t dare!” he snapped, his voice filled with panic and threat.
I noticed his extreme reaction to the words “take” and “away,” filing it away in my mind. It seemed those concepts triggered something deep and visceral in him.
“Em, please don’t go,” I said quickly, worried about her emotional state and the recording equipment she was carrying. “Stay a little longer. I’m worried about you.”
Emily hesitated, then nodded slightly. “Alright, I’ll stay,” she said quietly, pain still evident in her
eyes.
When she spotted Melissa, Emily suddenly straightened, a flash of triumph crossing her face.
she challenged, her lips curving upward. “Melissa, try your best. May the best woman win
Melissa glanced at Blake, then shook her head with a resigned smile. “I wouldn’t dare,” she said softly, clearly conceding defeat.
The host took the stage, his expression serious as his voice rang out: “After careful consideration by the organizers, the Anderson family property will be reauctioned!”
The room erupted in surprised murmurs. “What?” someone exclaimed. “What’s going on?” whispered another. “Is there something fishy happening?” a third person speculated.
The host scanned the crowd, his gaze settling on Anna and Melissa. “The two main bidders have no objections, correct?”
As people noticed Blake standing beside me, understanding dawned across their faces, and the room gradually fell silent.
The auctioneer took a deep breath and announced loudly: “Starting bid: zero dollars!”
His words echoed through the suddenly silent hall. Everyone exchanged bewildered glances,

occasionally stealing glimpses at Blake, clearly too intimidated by his presence to make a move.
The auctioneer’s forehead beaded with sweat as he maintained a professional smile. Ladies and gentlemen, any bids?” he asked, his voice slightly strained.
Melissa kept her head down, shuffling the papers in her hands, obviously unwilling to participate. Her expression had already accepted defeat.
