Chapter 331
He pulled nie into his arms, burying his face in my hair. His lips grazed my earlobe as he whispered, “The thought of your disappearing from my world a me feel like my life is collapsing.”
We understood ‘disappeating‘ differently. For him, it was death. For me,
had been escape.
Promise me, he begged, voice raw. “Promise you’ll never do anything dangerous again.”
Tears spilled down my cheeks as I held him. Four years of bitterness, love, and pain crashed over me. Was there still a chance for us? For the first time since our separation, my resolve wavered.
Could I risk loving him again?
Blake’s breathing steadied, his grip loosening. I searched his still–pale face. “How do you handle these emotions when I’m not around?” I asked softly.
“Silence,” he replied, expression grim. “I don’t say a word. The emotions eventually pass.”
“Maybe next time you’re upset, you could talk to me,” I suggested. “Like old friends would.”
“You mean that?” Hope lit up his eyes.
“Sure,” I shrugged. “Regardless of everything, I’m still someone you can trust…”
Blake misunderstood. He lifted me up, pressing me against the door and kissing me deeply.
“You’ll stay with me?” he asked between kisses.
“No, that’s not what I meant,” I gasped, catching my breath. “I meant you can call or visit if you need to talk-
“Some things, he murmured, lips trailing down my neck, “require your personal attention.”
I felt dizzy, overwhelmed. “Blake, stop…”
“When will I break through that stubborn mouth of yours?” he growled.
“That’s none of your business!” I pushed against his chest.
‘It is my business,” he insisted. “Anna, I’ll be managing you for the rest of your life!”
‘I don’t need managing,” I retorted. “Just take care of Nora.”
Blake’s expression darkened. “Nothing matters more than you. Nothing.”
“Don’t think that way,” I warned, alarmed. “Blake, I’m serious.”
“I’m kidding,” he backpedaled, though his eyes said otherwise. “Just trying to get a reaction.”
*Blake Wright,” I said firmly, “if you can’t give Nóra your complete love as her father, you’re worthless to me. Without Nora, we’d have no chance at all!”
His eyes widened, then a triumphant grin spread across his face. He lifted me, spinning me before setting me on the examination bed.
“So, we still have a chance?” he asked eagerly.
“That’s not what I said,” I protested weakly.
In truth, I wasn’t ready to admit–even to myself–that I might be considering it. The wounds were still fresh, the trust too fragile.

Chapter 331
“I can wait, Blake said, eyes locked on mine. I’ll wait until you’re ready to say yes. He traced my cheek. At least you’re not pushing me away Thurs enough for now. I’ll prove I’m worthy of your trust.
“Blake,” I said quickly, pushing him back. “Nora’s been alone too long I need to get back. Are you really not doing the examination?
He motioned me closer, resting his head on my shoulder. “If you ask now, I might get the wrong idea…” he teased. “No examination. We’re put having mate
children.”
“That seems hasty, I noted.
You don’t understand, he said softly. “Nothing’s more important than your health. Having children risks your life, and I won’t allow it. Besides, Nora’s growing up. The timing isn’t right.”
