Divorcing My Husband Over His Stepsister's Secret novel Chapter 299

Chapter 299

Blake’s POV:

*Blake Wright, only contact me when you actually need me to fulfill our agreement. I have my own life. My work matters to me. So don’t play these kinds of games with me again. You will never be the center of my life!

I watched her flag down a taxi, her movements jerky with anger. The cab’s taillights disappeared into Boston’s evening traffic, leaving me standing alone on the sidewalk. My cheek throbbed where she’d slapped me.

I ran my tongue along the inside of my cheek, tasting copper. The pain felt deserved.

Did I push her too hard? The thought surfaced unbidden.

Mr. Wright, should I- Melissa began.

Go inside and make our excuses,I interrupted. Tell them I had an emergency meeting.

Mr. Wright, Melissa’s voice was hesitant.

I turned, impatience flaring. What?

She shifted uncomfortably. May I ask you something?

I checked my watch. Make it quick.

You arranged that job for Ms. Anderson to keep her in Boston for two more years, right? Her words came faster now. But why did you let me give her those contracts between you and Blue Wave Technologiesboard members when you knew she’d ask for them? When she discovers there’s nothing suspicious, won’t that just make her leave faster?

I fixed her with a cold stare that made her physically recoil. You’re overstepping, Melissa.

I’m sorry, I shouldn’t have-She fumbled with her bag, extracting a small paper sack. This is from Ms. Anderson. She brought it last night when you wereindisposed.

Anna?My attention sharpened instantly.

Yes, sir. She knew you’d been drinking heavily. She bought hangover medication.Melissa hesitated. And the burn cream you used todaythat was from her

too.

Something loosened in my chest. The corner of my mouth twitched upward involuntarily. The memory of last night’s dreamAnna’s touch, her scent- flooded back, sending a rush of heat through my body. I quickly composed myself. I had excellent selfcontrol when drunk; I wouldn’t have done anything inappropriate.

She didn’tdo anything to me, did she?I asked carefully.

Melissa’s expression turned peculiar. You really don’t remember anything?

What should I remember?I kept my tone neutral.

If she had done something to you, Melissa said slowly, this cream wouldn’t still be in

my

hands.

I stared at her. What exactly are you saying, Melissa?

She looked away, then back at me with evident discomfort. Ms. Anderson came by, but when she arrivedClaire was straddling you.

The words hit like a physical blow. What?

Claire was on top of you, sir. Last night.

Chapter 299

My blood turned to ice. Take me to that hospital. Now.

The hospital where I used to live sat nestled among trees on the outskirts of Boston, its discreet façade belying its purpose. As our car pulled up, Claire burst through the entrance doors, running toward us with childlike excitement.
