Chapter 281
Anna’s POV:
Blake stood on the edge of the hospital roof, his figure swaying in the wind. I sat in the police car, my fingers gripping the door handle so tightly they turned white. Every nerve in my body screamed to get out, to run to him.
“Michael, I need to try. What if he wants to see me… My voice trembled despite my efforts to stay calm.
Michael locked the car doors with a decisive click. “The rescue team and negotiation experts are on their way. Even if Blake jumps now, with Claire keeping him talking for five more minutes, he won’t die!”
“What if he can’t hold on that long?” I snapped, my voice hardening like ice. “Be professional, Michael. Don’t let personal feelings interfere with your work. That’s a human life up there! Open the door!”
Michael’s expression turned grave. “My duty is to ensure public safety, including yours. Look at one o’clock position, three o’clock position, and the right side of the building where the patrol teams are exchanging positions with military precision. Do you still think this is just a regular hospital? This could very well be a trap! Anna, even if Blake jumps now, even if he dies right in front of you, even if you hate me forever, I cannot let you out of this car!”
The young officer beside him tried to reassure me. “Miss Anderson, trust our captain. He’s solved countless cases, never failed in an investigation. What’s ahead is extremely dangerous. The captain letting you stay here is already the maximum deployment possible. If he wasn’t in charge, I would have retreated when we first noticed something was wrong!”
“Shut up!” Michael barked at him.
From my vantage point, I suddenly saw Blake laugh on the rooftop. His shoulders shook visibly. I couldn’t make out his expression clearly, but somehow I could feel his laughter. Something in my chest loosened slightly. The realization settled in my gut like a stone maybe Blake only needed Claire right now,
not me.
Blake’s POV:
“The baby is gone, and she doesn’t care if I live or die,” I repeated Claire’s words mechanically.
‘She really said that?” I asked, not particularly surprised. Of course Anna hated me now. After everything that happened, how could she not?
It’s better she doesn’t come. She just had a miscarriage. The wind up here is too strong for her.
I stared down at the distant ground, oddly calm. If my death could make Anna happy, if it could help her move on from losing our child, I was willing to do it.
In this life, I’d had everything I wanted – status, position, money. All the things my father insisted were important. None of it meant anything anymore.
In my next life, maybe I wouldn’t be abandoned and rejected by my family. Maybe I could experience genuine family love and romance – the things normal people take for granted.
I shifted my foot forward half an inch closer to the edge.
Claire’s POV:
Cold sweat poured down my face as I screamed, “Blakey! Don’t you remember what you promised me when we were kids? You said you’d take care of me forever!”
My heart pounded against my ribs.
This wasn’t like before. Usually, a little sweet talk would bring him back from the edge. But now, looking at his blank expression, I realized he was serious about killing himself.
Real fear gripped me. What happened during that one night he spent away that pushed him to this point?
In that moment, I hated Anna with every fiber of my being. This was all her fault.

Blake’s unfocused gaze gradually shifted to my wrists, noticing the handcuffs. His expression remained wooden, emotions flat.
“Why?” he asked, his voice bately audible over the wind.
“Mom’s been framed by Anna for financial crimes, accused of embezzlement. I don’t know why. Mom only said Anna is doing it for revenge!
