Chapter 274
Anna’s POV:
CICL
Blake’s lips crushed against mine, hesitating for just a fraction of a second before continuing with even more intensity.
The air around us feit heavy with hormones and his scent–but something was different. The familiar cologne he always wore was gone, replaced by faint traces of antiseptic and something metallic, like blood.
Under his almost desperate kisses, my thoughts began to blur at the edges. This wasn’t gentle or romantic—it was raw and needy, like he’d been waiting as eternity for this moment of salvation.
When he sensed my resistance weakening, his movements slowed. He pecked my lips one final time, like stamping his victory.
Then his whole body collapsed against mine, his head buried in the crook of my neck. He clutched me tightly, as if I were a lifeline instead of the woman he’d been pushing away for months.
I raised my hands to shove him off, but froze mid–air when I felt something warm trickling down my neck.
Tears. Blake’s tears.
They slipped beneath my collar, each droplet sending pain straight to my heart.
Over our four years together, I’d seen Blake cry maybe twice, and even then, he’d quickly composed himself, hiding behind that perfect mask of control. But now he was sobbing against me, his breath hitching in a way I’d never heard before.
‘I can’t see anything anymore,” he choked out. “My future is just… darkness.”
My brain couldn’t process his words. Blake Wright, Boston’s youngest powerhouse CEO, saying his future was dark? Divorce would only make him the city’s most eligible bachelor. His company was thriving. His family name opened every door. What could possibly make him sound so broken?
I felt awkward and exposed. I shifted slightly upward but remained silent, unsure what to say to this man who felt simultaneously like my husband and a stranger.
The shrill ring of his phone cut through the moment.
Blake seemed to suddenly remember himself, pulling away without meeting my eyes. He turned his back to me as he reached for his phone.
The name flashing on the screen hit me like a slap: Claire.
Blake rejected the call and quickly opened a messaging app, searching for her name.
[Claire, I’m busy right now.] he typed.
Her reply appeared almost instantly: [Blakey, come back soon. Why are you out so late?]
[It’s fine] he responded curtly before shoving the phone back into his jacket pocket.
Claire’s POV:
The sound of my palm connecting with Melissa’s face echoed through the sterile hallway. Her head snapped to the side, a red mark already forming on her cheek.
“If anything happens to Blakey, you’ll pay with your life!” I hissed.
She tried to stand her ground. “Mr. Wright’s condition isn’t severe enough to keep him isolated here. Being confined will only make it worse. Some social interaction would actually help-*
“What would you know?” I cut her off. “Are you the doctor? Blakey’s like this precisely because he spent too much time with Anna. You’r him!”

“That’s ridiculous,” Melissa countered. Tve consulted with actual doctons. Keeping him alone here with nothing but his thoughts to the rat possibl
I couldn t help but laugh coldly at her ridiculous accusations 1 kicked the back of her knee, sending het crashing to the floor.
I think you’re the one who’s talking nonsense. Since you think you understand his condition so well, maybe you should experience it yourself?”
I clapped my hands, and my two men in white lab coats stepped forward from behind me. My brothers assistant seems to have caught whateter is making him unstable. Give her a daily sedative and throw her in the next room.”
