Chapter 244
Anna’s POV:
It was midnight, and Blake still hadn’t returned to our bedroom. This wasn’t unusual, but tonight I needed to talk to him shout my top. I rendant Ma from him any longer.
The entire manor was pitch black. I checked his study first, but the lights were off.
Maybe he was in one of the guest rooms downstairs? After searching for several minutes and finding nothing. I headed back upstairs.
As I passed by his study again, I noticed the door was slightly ajar. Pushing it open, I found Blake slumped over his desk, fast asleep.
The room was a mess – a ladder had fallen over, and books were scattered across the floor. It was strange seeing the usually pristine space in coch disarray
Blake wasn’t sleeping peacefully. His long eyelashes flickered rapidly, and his brow was furrowed. I approached and gently nudged his shoulder.
“Blake, go to bed,” I said softly,
He stirred, blinking up at me with confusion. “Why are you here?
“Haven’t finished your work? I can wait until tomorrow. You need sleep.”
I fought back a smirk. I’d thought Claire would be all over him every night, but apparently she was too busy partying until dawn to care that her precious “Blakey‘ was passed out alone at his desk.
Before I could step away, Blake grabbed my wrist and pulled me toward him, wrapping his arms around my waist. His head rested against my chest.
“Where should I sleep?” he murmured, still half–asleep.
“In your bedroom,” I replied, growing uncomfortable.
He nestled his face against me. “Don’t want
Ito go back there.”
His short, stiff hair pricked through my thin silk nightgown, both painful and ticklish. I stood frozen, clutching the sleeves of my nightgown.
It struck me how long it had been since we’d shared any kind of intimate moment. We’d both been so busy, so cold to each other. And now here he was, holding me while I wasn’t even wearing a bra under my nightgown.
When he finally looked up at me, something in his
eyes shifted from desire to disappointment. It irritated me. What did he expect?
“Come on,” I said, tugging him up. “You need proper sleep.”
He reluctantly stood, and I noticed angry red marks across his palm.
‘What happened to your hand?” I asked, examining the scratches.
“It’s nothing.”
“And why did the bookshelf fall over?”
“I bumped into it accidentally,” he said, avoiding my eyes.
“That’s dangerous,” I frowned. “Tomorrow I’ll have someone install
an electric
system with a track on the ceiling.”
I remembered falling while reaching for a book once. Blake had found me on the floor and accused me of trying to compete with Claire for his attention.
As if everything I did revolved around her.

He paused at the doorway, his
