Divorcing My Husband Over His Stepsister's Secret novel Chapter 236

Chapter 236

Anna’s POV:

Blake’s words echoed in my head as we returned to Seaside Manor. Finally caring about me, he’d said, his expression shifting from hurt to jny when i agreed to move back.

That’s when it hit mehe actually thought my desire to keep him away from Claire was an act of selfishness. As if I didn’t care about him. As if I was the villain in our story.

I’m willing to spoil you,he continued softly, taking my hand. That’s why I agreed to your whims and went to the new house with you.

A chill ran through me, and for a moment, I couldn’t breathe. Then suddenly, something changed inside me. The familiar ache I’d feel after moments of sweetness with Blakethat crushing disappointment when reality rushed back init wasn’t there anymore. Instead, I felt nothing. Not sadness, not love, not even anger. Justemptiness.

I realized then: the brief sweetness wasn’t bringing doubled pain anymore. It was bringing something elsecomplete withdrawal.

You’re back living with that scheming bitch of a stepsister? Are you fucking kidding me, Anna?Emily practically shouted across her desk at EcoMarine Group the next morning.

I shrugged, aiming for nonchalance. He wasn’t feeling well. Having someone else there to look after him works outotherwise he’s constantly after me, and I can’t get any work done.

Oh, serves him right!Emily huffed, shuffling papers on her desk.

Listen,I said, leaning forward. I need a favor. Can you arrange a short business trip for me? Just something small, one day?

Her eyebrows shot up. You’re still avoiding them! You have your own home but can’t stay there. What exactly does Blake think you are?

It’s not like that-

I’m so sorry, Anna, she interrupted, her voice softening. This is all my fault. If I hadn’t screwed up, you wouldn’t have had to go back to Blake.

Hey, I touched her arm. What happened wasn’t just some accident. If it hadn’t been you, it would’ve been someone else. He was determined to get me back home. You have no idea how meticulous he is, how many calculations go into everything he does.

I sighed. Don’t blame yourself. I don’t know if it’s fate or what, but Blake and I are stuck in this mess for a while longer.

What can I do? How can I help you?The desperation in Emily’s voice made my chest tight.

You’ve done so much already. EcoMarine is thriving thanks to you.I paused, remembering her mentioning a new contact. About Ethan HamiltonI’ve only met him a few times, but he’s definitely not someone easy to handle. Be careful with him, okay? Don’t get yourself in too deep.”

Emily nodded, then smiled weakly. There’s a small case I can send you on. Marine conservation area being disrupted. One day, overnight stay. That work?

Sure. Thank you, Em.

My finger hit sendliterally one second before they announced final boarding. I powered off my phone without waiting for Blake’s response and boarded the plane.

When I landed and turned my phone back on, the notifications exploded. Five messages from Blake.

[Where are you going so suddenly?]

[How long will you be gone?]

[Overnight or just the day?]

[Why aren’t you answering?]

Chapter 236

[When does your plane land? Anna, call me as soon as you see this.)

My head swam with the bartage of questions. I called him immediately, spending ten exhausting minutes explaining that this was a work requirement, that I’d be back tomorrow, that everything was fine.

He finally relented with a sigh. Just one day. Then you come home.

The next evening, i returned to Seaside Manor with a small box of chocolates I’d picked up

at

the airport.

The sun was setting, casting long golden rays through the windows..

Blake stood by the window, his back to me, talking on the phone. Ilis silhouette stretched across the floor, impossibly tall.

I remembered William once mentioning how little Blake used to press his face against windows, watching planes in the distance.

Now grown, he stood straightbacked and elegant, even when he thought no one was watching.

Assuming it was work, I tried to slip past without disturbing him.

Thanks, Dad,I heard him say, his voice unusually gentle. I don’t know what you said to Anna, but she seems to have come around. She moved back to Seaside Manor with me.

I froze midstep.

Ohthat’s good,William replied through the phone, loud enough for me to hear. At least there’s someone to take care of you there. Otherwise, you’d waste energy doing everything yourself at the new house.
