Divorcing My Husband Over His Stepsister's Secret novel Chapter 231

Chapter 231

Anna’s POV:

I’d been staring at the ceiling for more than three hours, my brain refusing to shut down despite my exhaustion.

The digital clock on the nightstand mockingly displayed 4:17 AM, its red glow the only light in our bedroom.

Blake hadn’t come to bed yet. Not that I was waiting for himwe weren’t exactly on speaking terms right now.

A thunderous crash jolted me upright. My heart leaped into my throat.

Blake?I called out, throwing back the covers. No response.

Blake!I shouted again, hurrying down the hallway. The house remained eerily silent.

I checked the living room firstempty. The kitchennothing. Then I noticed the study door slightly ajar, with no light coming from inside. That’s when i found him.

Blake was sprawled on the floor, face flushed with fever. I dropped to my knees beside him.

Blake! Wake up!I shook his shoulder gently. His skin burned against my palm.

He didn’t respond. I fumbled for my phone and called our family doctor.

While waiting, I noticed a small box on the floor near his hand. A prescription medication, newly opened but missing three pills.

The doctor arrived within twenty minutes. We’d moved Blake to the bedroom by then, and the doctor quickly assessed him.

High fever. His lips are cracked from dehydration,he noted, preparing an IV. He needs fluids, antipyretics, and close monitoring. Use alcohol to help bring down his temperature, and change these cooling patches hourly.

I nodded, moistening Blake’s lips with a damp cotton swab.

. Doctor, could you tell me what this medication is?I asked, handing him the box I’d found.

He examined it briefly. It’s a mood stabilizer, helps with emotional regulation. Nothing concerning.

Side effects?

Remind whoever’s taking it to follow dosage instructions carefully. These can have significant physical side effects.

I nodded solemnly. It belongs to one of our staff who didn’t disclose their condition, We can’t keep someone who hides medical issues like this.

Wise decision,he agreed, packing his bag. Someone taking this might have limited control over their emotional state. They could become volatile, potentially dangerous when episodes occur.

After seeing the doctor out, I returned to find Blake still unconscious. I sat beside him, staring at the medicine box.

Caroline had once mentioned Blake showed signs of autism as a child, but I never knew it was severe enough to require medication.

In our four years of marriage, I’d never seen him take anything like this.

When I entered the bedroom again, Blake’s blue eyes were open, watching me with that familiar coldness despite his fever.

I passed out?His voice was hoarse.

I nodded.

Chapter 231

Come to bed. Let me hold you while I sleep. My head hurts.

You should rest. I’ll get some alcohol to wipe you down,I replied.

We only have wine, Come here. I just need to hold you.

Considering his condition and what I’d discovered about his medication, I didn’t refuse.

1 sat on the edge of the bed, and he pulled me into his arms. I remained rigid in his embrace for what felt like an eternity until his breathing finally steadied into sleep.

Carefully, I unlocked his phone. I needed answers. I typed a message to his assistant Melissa: [I’m out of medication. Send two more boxes to Santhine Villa.]

Just then, Melissa’s name flashed on the screen with an incoming call. I immediately declined it, clutching the phone to my chest, heart pooriding wildly

Blake mumbled something unintelligible

buried his face in my hair, his arm tightening around my waist.

The phone vibrated twice with incoming messages from Melissa:

[Mr. Wright, I’ll schedule your appointment with the psychiatrist after tomorrow’s 4 PM meeting. Didn’t you say you wouldn’t need as much medication once Mrs. Wright returned? I just delivered your prescription two days ago.]

My brain exploded. What did his medication have to do with me?

I typed back: [This is Anna. Melissa, tell me the truthwhy is Blake taking these pills?]

Caroline’s casual comment about Blake’s autistic tendencieswas my only clue. If she hadn’t mentioned it, I might never have known.

Blake had always seemed so perfectly composed, not someone struggling with mental health issues. Had I been so selfabsorbed that I missed the signs?

-as if mental illness could be eliminated like a common cold.

I’d always assumed he was completely cured

When Melissa didn’t respond, I added: [Since I already know, there’s no point hiding it. Another person looking after him could only help.}

Finally, she replied:
