Chapter 181
Anna’s POV:
1 had already made up my mind to never see these people again, and now here I was
It felt surreal.
These had once been the family I loved most, and I couldn’t understand what had happened that turned loved ones into enemies.
I had become completely alone.
The crash of William’s fist against the table made me flinch. Ilis glass toppled over, spilling whiskey across the polished mahogany
Claire immediately shrank into Caroline’s embrace, her earlier arrogance toward me replaced by obvious fear.
‘Stand in the comer and think about what you’ve done! William bellowed at Claire. “You’ll apologize to Anna properly or leave this house!
“Mom, Claire whined, her voice dripping with that childish tone she always used when in trouble.
Caroline looked torn but one stern glance from William was enough. Just do as your father says, Claire. Go to the corner.
Claire shot me a hateful glare as she stomped to the corner of the hall, turning her back to us all. Her slender shoulders trembled with anger.
I couldn’t help wondering what kind of show this family was putting on now.
William’s demeanor transformed completely. His stern expression melted into affection as he extended his hand toward me.
“Blake told me he had a surprise for me, and what a wonderful surprise it is!” he exclaimed. “Seeing you here makes my heart feel stronger already! Come here, Anna!”
I remained silent. Some relationships, once broken, can never be mended.
I deliberately chose the seat directly in front of Claire, who immediately twisted her body to face away from me. Neither Caroline nor William said anything about her behavior.
William awkwardly withdrew his outstretched hand, his gaze dropping to my stomach.
“Such a shame about my unborn grandchild!” he said softly. “Anna, I’ve already punished Claire severely for what happened. Have you and Blake reconciled? He told me he was trying to win you back! Don’t let the baby issue come between you two–you can have another child. You’re the only woman I’ve ever accepted for my son!”
Win me back? Who was trying to placate me?
I suddenly understood that Blake and Scarlett’s online behavior was just using me as cover.
When I couldn’t get pregnant during our four years of marriage, I was considered “defective,” but now that they knew my body could bear children, I was suddenly the only daughter–in–law he’d ever accept.”
William’s eyes reddened. “Anna, are you still upset with me? With Claire? If you have any grievances, just tell me, and I’ll make it right. All I want is for you and Blake to reconcile. If you two don’t get back together, I’m afraid my heart condition will only get worse–I couldn’t die in peace knowing you two are
apart!”
I remained silent, scanning their faces.
I wondered how William would react if he knew today was his son’s engagement party with Scarlett.
‘Claire, apologize to Anna right now!” Winiam demanded. “Otherwise, don’t bother coming back to my house!”

Chapter 181
“Dad!” Claffe protested. Why should I apologize to lim, 21 ve done puthing wrong, River not even married to Miske samne
Caroline dabbed at her eyes, silently pleading for mercy
The once quiet roam had become chantle. My chest felt tight. I had no interest in learning what had transpired between them, and I dile ( want e) be entangled in Wight family matters anymore. It was exhausting.
Don’t bother with the apology.” I said firmly. Some people will never earn my forgiveness, even if they apologize.
Claire sprang up, her chest heaving as though she’d suffered some terrible injustice.
Her reddened eyes brimmed with tears–that familiar look of pitiful vulnerability I’d seen so many times before.
“Anna, what’s really going on between you and Claire?” Caroline asked reproachfully. “What grudge could be so deep that you’d treat her this way!Look be she’s crying, she can barely breathe.”
I mentally rolled my eyes. Maybe she should just suffocate then.
I stood up and looked at William. Of everyone in this family, only he and I still maintained some semblance of fake goodwill.
“I haven’t reconciled with Blake,” I said. “It seems I came to the wrong place today. Please continue without me. I won’t intrude any longer.
Just then, the doors to the hall swung open. Blake
entered with Scarlett on his arm.
Scarlett flitted between everyone, greeting them warmly, acting as though she was already the Wright family daughter–in–law.
What surprised me was how she completely set
