Chapter 176
Anna’s POV:
“What kind of company? I asked Seth.
“Oh, a tech company, he replied casually.
I still didn’t quite understand and wasn’t even sure what else to ask, so I went with the most basic question. That must be tough, right?
He flashed a quick grin. ‘It’s manageable.”
I stared at Seth standing before me, my vision seemingly frozen in this moment.
Suddenly he was all I could see, yet I had no words to respond to him.
It wasn’t hard to imagine how much Seth had to persuade his father to relent, or how turning around a company that had been losing money for three years was practically an impossible task. Yet for me, he had accepted this harsh challenge.
He only mentioned the positive aspects, never saying what would happen if he failed.
What would be waiting for him then?
Seth had sacrificed too much for me. How could I possibly repay him? My heart involuntarily tightened into a knot.
Things between Blake and me were developing in a direction I couldn’t control. I wasn’t mentally or emotionally ready to accept a new man in my life–at the very least, Lwas still carrying too much baggage right now.
“I hope you’re treating this as a growth opportunity,” I said carefully. “Since you’ve accepted the challenge, I want you to gain something from it, not just do it for me.”
Seth’s smile faltered. His eyes reddened slightly as he looked away, then back at me with renewed determination.
“If you don’t want to come to New York for the inspection, just stay in Boston and wait for me. Three months–that’s all I need. Next time, I’ll show up with the biggest bouquet of roses you’ve ever seen!”
“I believe in you,” I said softly. “And I’ll wait.”
As we gathered our things to leave for dinner, the café door swung open. Blake walked in alongside Maxwell Price, Seth’s older brother. My heart plummeted.
“Wait for what?” Blake’s cold voice cut through the air. “Mind sharing the good news?”
Seth stared at his brother. ‘Maxwell? What are you doing with him?”
Maxwell Price–tall, imposing, with the same sharp jawline as Seth but none of his warmth–nodded at me. “Anna, it’s been a while.”
“Mr. Price,” I responded, lightly shaking his hand. I’d always found him intimidating, even back in college.
‘Seth, we need to talk,” Maxwell said firmly. “Father didn’t authorize you to-”
‘I’ll take you home first, Seth interrupted, grabbing my wrist.
Blake’s hand shot out, clamping down on Seth’s shoulder. “She doesn’t need your escort.”
Maxwell’s voice hardened. “Seth. Now.“.
1 gently patted Seth’s hand and mouthed, I’ll wait for you.”
Reluctantly, Seth let go, shooting Blake a cold glare before following his brother.

Chapter 176
Blake steered me toward his car outside. Once there, he pinnet me against the door, his fingers gripping my chin.
“What was that look in your eyes?‘ he demanded, his face inches from mine. His breath smelled of mim and coffee Anna, you’ve fallen for pm for you?‘
1 yanked my face away. Who I like is none of your business anymore, I’m not a Wright Group employee, and I’m definitely not your wife. Back 17,
“Running from me won’t work,” he said. “I’ll always find a way back into your life.”
“Weren’t you sick?” I snapped. “Must be exhausting to keep up the act! Since when did you start lying? From calling me to somehow getting his brother here -even with the Wright and Price families being close, Maxwell couldn’t have possibly-
“Mmph-
My words died as a familiar face suddenly filled my vision, my back pressed hard against the car door. Blake’s hand gripped the back of my head, his fingers threading through my hair, sending unwanted shivers down my spine.
His scent–strange yet familiar–enveloped me. His body pressed against mine, leaving no room for resistance.
His hot tongue forced my lips apart, swallowing whatever words I had left as the kiss deepened.
For a moment, my blood froze in my veins.
Loud banging erupted nearby. Looking over Blake’s shoulder, I saw Seth locked in the passenger seat of a car, his fists pounding against the window, his eyes wild with fury and hurt. Like an abandoned puppy. My heart twisted painfully.
I struggled desperately, but Blake just tightened his grip, raising my hands above my head with one hand. In his eyes, my resistance was just playful teasing.
Near the TV station, my ex–husband had me pinned against a car…
I couldn’t bear it. I closed my eyes and bit down hard on his mouth.
“Shit… Blake pulled back, his thumb wiping blood from the corner of his lip, his gaze icy. “What’s the problem? It’s just a kiss. We’ve done worse in front of
him.”
His expression turned playful as he pressed down on my shoulders, forcing me to crouch. “Need me to remind you?”
Even the finest tailored dress pants couldn’t hide the change beneath his zipper. He looked down at me, his actions a brutal reminder of our past intimacy.
