Divorcing My Husband Over His Stepsister's Secret novel Chapter 166

Chapter 166

Anna’s POV

Scarlett stood before me, her right cheek flaming red where my palm had connected with it seconds ago.

The other half of her face had gone ghostly pale from shock. She swayed unsteadily, nearly collapsing before a woman nearby caught her elbow

The elegant classical music playing in the background suddenly felt too quiet as the people around me began whispering among themselves. I could catch snippets of their conversations, and they clearly weren’t trying hard to keep their voices down.

I heard Blake dumped her. How dare she treat his new girlfriend like this?a woman with an ostentatious pearl necklace whispered to her companion.

Someone call Blake! We can’t let Scarlett be bullied like this,a frowning businessman said, pulling out his phone.

Scarlett kept her gaze fixed on me, tears welling in her eyes. She was playing the victim perfectly, garnering sympathy from the onlookers. I wanted to roll my eyes at her performance.

I couldn’t help but remember how different things used to be.

The Anderson family once stood tall in the business circles. After my marriage into the Wright family, I was treated like royalty everywhere I went. But how quickly things change. These same people who once bowed and scraped before me had turned their backs in an instant.

If I don’t make a stand now, this disrespect will only get worse,I thought, scanning the faces of everyone present. Bunch of opportunistic assholes.

I deliberately put on my coldest expression and stared down the crowd. Immediately, the whispers died down. No one dared meet my eyes. Some looked embarrassed at being silenced by a mere look.

About that potential collaboration with EcoMarine Group’s new projectsomeone tried changing the subject, extending an olive branch to Scarlett.

She smoothed her dress with a selfsatisfied air and turned to me. Miss Anderson, you know my background. Being with Blake, I can’t help feeling insecure sometimes, like we’re from different worlds. But today I realize there’s a reason he keeps me by his side. He wouldn’t appreciate your confrontational nature. Let’s forget about what happened todayI won’t tell Blake. I don’t want to put him in a difficult position.

The crowd murmured their approval of Scarlett’s graciousresponse. Several women nodded in agreement.

I laughed internally. I wasn’t afraid of her threatening me with Blake anymore. I used to be accommodating, too. I treated Claire like my own sister for four years. But I’ve woken up now. I won’t be the easygoing wife for Blake anymore.

Without hesitation, I stepped forward and slapped Scarlett again. Harder this time. My palm stung from the impact, but I casually blew on it, unconcerned.

Please don’t tell him!I mocked, my voice dripping with sarcasm.

I watched as Scarlett fled, holding her cheek. The tension that had been building inside me for daysfrom all the business we’d lostfinally began to dissipate. A cold smile played on my lips as I picked up a nearby glass of champagne and took a small sip.

Later, I pushed open the door to the restroom, needing a moment alone. I froze when I heard Scarlett’s voice coming from one of the stalls.

She was on the phone, crying. I quietly slipped into another stall, accidentally becoming an unwilling eavesdropper when I heard Blake’s voice on the other end.

Blake, can you come pick me up?Scarlett sobbed.

Have the driver take you home.Blake’s voice sounded cold and distant through the phone.

Blake, there’s someone at the party I don’t likethey embarrassed me. Could you come and support me?she pleaded.

Scarlett, I don’t want to repeat myself. His tone grew more firm.

Blake, everyone thinks we’re a couple now. My reputation is your reputation too, isn’t it?Scarlett’s voice suddenly changed to a sickeningly sweet, whiny
