Divorcing My Husband Over His Stepsister's Secret novel Chapter 107

Chapter 107

Anna’s POV:

I noticed the black carryon by Blake’s leg and felt my stomach drop

Didn’t you say last night you weren’t leaving?I asked, not bothering to hide the accusation in my voice.

Blake walked to the edge of the bed and reached out to stroke my head. I jerked away before he could touch me. His hand hovered awkwardly in the air for a moment before he pulled it back.

Yeah, I need to go back,he admitted.

God, I hated him sometimes. So hot and cold. So unpredictable.

It can’t wait two more days?I asked.

No, it’s urgent,he replied, his voice flat.

You have to go?

I have to.”

But you promised to stay with me for a week.

I watched his patience visibly evaporate. His expression turned serious, almost stern.

I’m going back to deal with your situation,he said. I’ll take you on another trip later.

Another trip. I studied his face, trying to see if he really meant it.

Blake, I never did anything wrong. Do you believe that?I asked, the question slipping out before I could stop myself.

He just made a noncommittal sound. Not a yes. Not a no.

That fixation of his was like a shackle, trapping us both.

I lay back down, turning my back to him. Safe travels.

I squeezed my eyes shut, hating myself for still trying to test him, to get some reaction. What a clown I was.

I already knew what was happening in Boston. My mom’s secretary Daniel had kept me informed.

The internet was blowing up with my scandal.Someone was claiming I was in the middle of divorcing the Wright family because I couldn’t keep my legs closed.

Photos of me with different men were circulating online. There was one with Seth. Another with Henry. Even one with Michael.

They’d even found a picture of me hugging my college classmate after an alumni gathering, conveniently photoshopping out the other classmates and Emily.

The attack was brutal, spearheaded by Claire’s fan base. The headlines were vicious: The True Face of Mrs. Wright: The Parasite Wife Who Hurts Others,Her Stage, Her Future: Why Did Claire Lose Her Principal Dancer Position?

Chapter 107

I was curious how Blake planned to handle this mess back in Boston

Oddly enough, I felt calm. After everything Blake and I had been through, no surprise could faze me anymore. All I cared about was making sure my coral project presentation went smoothly.

For the next two days, I refused to hide in my room like some guilty party. Instead, I explored every corner of the island, determine to salvage what remained of my vacation.

I mingled with tourists in their colorful summer clothes, played beach volleyball with a group of college students who had no idea who I was, drank overpriced and mediocre sweet cocktails from beachside stands while watching the sunset paint the sky in oranges and pinks.

I met a marine biologist from Australia who was studying local coral bleaching patterns, and we hit it off immediately, talking for hours about conservation techniques and rehabilitation strategies.

We exchanged contact information and promised to meet for dinner if either of us visited the other’s country.

For the first time in ages, someone was talking to me because of my knowledge and passion, not my last name or my husband’s

money.

I discovered the unexpected joy of traveling alonethe freedom to follow my own schedule, the conversations with strangers who knew nothing about the Wright family drama, the quiet moments watching fish dart through coral formations while snorkeling near the reef edge.

I took extensive notes on coral conditions, already forming ideas for my project back home.

On the seventh day, Blake sent someone to take me back to Bostonnot even a text message from him directly, just an assistant with a firstclass ticket.

I packed my few belongings calmly, my notebook filled with observations and ideas. I was ready. It was time to step onto my own battlefield.

Boston Logan Airport was packed. I hurried through the terminal alone, without any luggage.

A part of me feared Blake would break his promise to attend my coral project presentation.

He’d assured me he would be there for this important milestonemy first major project since taking over. I had wished him a safe journey before he boarded his flight.

Despite the crowd, I felt isolated. I forced a smile though my heart felt heavy. I couldn’t let anything disturb my mental state before the presentation.

At the EcoMarine Group conference center, I spotted Jade, the previous project lead, in the waiting area. Her face was pale, her frame thin. I knew what others didn’tshe was fighting cancer.

Anna, I just saw Lucas, she said. I have no regrets now.

Her assistant hovered anxiously. You’ve seen him. The doctor said you shouldn’t be out this long.

Anna, the coral project is in your hands now,Jade said. We need to secure continued funding. I don’t have much time left.

I’ll do my absolute best,I promised. You can count on me.
