Chapter 559
Chapter 559
Jennifer said in frustration, “Fine. It’s all my fault. But your mom came to me for the check–up, and I just told the truth. Whatever. It’s none of my
business now.”
She hoped Donald would comfort her by saying this. She felt incredibly wronged right now
w and still harbored a deep grudge against Cheryl for that slap.
Donald turned away and said, “I won’t go home tonight. I’ll drive Mom and Cheryl back to their place.”
Jennifer was taken aback for a moment, and then she said coldly, “Suit yourself. I’m not going home either. I have surgery to do.”
“Alright. Let’s both take some time to cool off.” With that, Donald walked away.
Jennifer stood frozen and watched Donald’s back in disbelief.
His last words kept echoing in her mind.
When Donald finally disappeared from view, Jennifer couldn’t help but lash out and sweep everything off the desk in a fit of rage, sending all the stuff crashing to the floor. She pressed a hand to her forehead, and a tear trickled down her cheek.
She wondered, ‘Why don’t those closest to me, those I love most, ever understand me? Why can’t they ever see things from my perspective? Why do they always misinterpret my good intentions?‘
To Jennifer, both Teresa and Donald were the people she felt closest to. She admitted that some of her words were heartless and uncompromising, but everything she said was the hard truth. Nevertheless, neither of them wanted to hear the truth she told.
Jennifer swallowed hard. Suddenly, she felt a faint flutter in her belly and instinctively stroked her stomach. She was surprised because she knew it was too early to feel the baby moving.
Jennifer said, “Baby, are you comforting Mommy? What did I ever do wrong? Why does no one ever understand me? Why is my life so hard?”
When Cathy returned home, she was still deeply depressed. She told Cheryl that she didn’t think she had much time left.
Cheryl kept comforting her and suggested she not overthink it, and Donald was also comforting Cathy.
Before long, Werner came back home with a medical report in his hand. He explained that he had asked a friend to run some tests for him, and he tested negative.
Cheryl immediately took over the report and handed it to Cathy. Cheryl said, “See, Mom? Dad would never do that. Now you can rest easy.”
Donald also smiled reassuringly and said, “Mom, there’s really nothing wrong. You’re just worrying too much.”
Cathy still seemed doubtful. She said, “But Jennifer said it was your dad who passed the viruses on to me.”
Donald sighed and said, “Jennifer was just making a guess. As a doctor myself, I can tell you that no physician can guarantee 100% accuracy. Sometimes, mistakes and misdiagnoses do happen.”
Cathy remained silent.
Werner sighed and said, “Alright. I’m fine, and I’m sure you are too. Don’t blow such a trivial thing out of proportion and make us a laughingstock to outsiders.”
Cathy pursed her lips, and her sobs finally subsided.
Seeing that Cathy had finally calmed down, Cheryl relaxed. She mumbled something about urgent work and insisted she had to leave right away.
