Chapter 549
Seeing that things had settled down on Jonathan’s end, Benny decided it was tim
to head back to Nareigh,
Jonathan said, “I should head back to Nareigh, too. Thanks for taking care of me last night, Benny”
Benny suddenly chuckled. He said, “You were so drunk yesterday that I left early. The one who took you home and looked after you all night was someone else entirely.”
Jonathan asked, “Who else could it be?”
Benny said, “Did you black out, or do you not remember? It was Teresa who took you home.”
Jonathan’s mind finally cleared as fragments from the previous night surfaced. He remembered leaning on Teresa’s shoulder in the taxi, cafung her “honey.”
He murmured, “I thought it was just a dream, but Teresa had been looking after me all night.”
Jonathan’s eyes flickered with mixed emotions as he looked at Benny. He asked, “What was Teresa doing in Shaville?”
Benny replied, “What else did you expect? She came all this way just to see you. You two were husband and wife. Is it really that surprising she cares
about you?”
Jonathan didn’t press further. His expression softened as he wiped his mouth. Then he said, “Take your time. This one’s on me.” With that, he stood up to
leave.
Benny teased, “Shouldn’t you check if she’s still in Shaville or already back in Nareigh? Or do you want me to call and ask for you?”
Jonathan said, “I’ll contact her myself.” With that, he left.
Benny chuckled, shaking his head, and leisurely enjoyed his meal by himself.
Teresa had already arrived at the airport. She was heading back to Nareigh today. There was still an hour to go before her flight.
Suddenly, her phone buzzed. It was a message from Jonathan asking where she was. Teresa texted back briefly that she was at the airport and asked if he needed anything. But Jonathan didn’t reply.
Teresa wanted to ask Jonathan if he had sobered up yet. She typed a few words, then deleted them. Given how completely wasted he’d been last night, she figured he probably didn’t even remember it was she who took care of him.
She thought, ‘Maybe that’s for the best. I am never looking for any credit anyway.’
An hour later, as Teresa prepared for the security check, she inspected her bag and walked forward. Suddenly, her wrist was seized from behind.
Teresa whirled around, her initial wariness melting into relief as she met Jonathan’s burning gaze.
“Thank goodness I didn’t miss you,” Jonathan said.
Jonathan arranged with the staff to upgrade Teresa to first class, ensuring her seat was close to his. He took her bag effortlessly a heading back to Nareigh today, too.”
Teresa asked, “Are you serious?”
“Let’s go. I’m
Jonathan took her hand and said, “Think of it as me keeping you company. Wouldn’t want you to get lonely on such a long trip. After all, you did spend the whole night with me.”
Teresa averted her eyes. She thought, ‘This is absurd. I’ve seen his face countless times, yet my heart still races, and I feel this strange tension.
