Broken Memories, Intertwined Hearts novel Chapter 454

“Izzy, you sure know how to comfort a guy,” Ethan chuckled, looking at Ines.

Ines smirked. “Ethan, I’m not just trying to make you feel better. I’m telling it like it is.”

“Still feeling jealous?” Ethan shifted the conversation abruptly.

Ines shook her head decidedly. “Do I look like someone who can’t let go? I’m over it.”

“So far, we haven’t unearthed anything else she’s done, and I’m just as reluctant as you to believe that she’d do anything to harm the Meyer Group or me.”

“Well, that’s it. Don’t overthink it. It’s all water under the bridge. Oh, and there’s something I never told you. When I first interned at the Meyer Group, I once had coffee with her.”

“Hmm?” Ethan looked at Ines, perplexed. Ines chuckled, leaning into Ethan’s embrace. “I had a chat with Leila. She knew I had a soft spot for you, so she specifically asked me out. She told me that if you like someone, you have to fight for it. She encouraged me a lot. Part of the reason I had the courage to confess my feelings to you was because of her.”

“Leila encouraged you?”

“Yeah, at that time, I didn’t even know she was your girlfriend. I can’t even begin to understand what was going through her mind when she said those words to me.”

Ines believed, unlike Silvia, Leila truly loved Ethan. It wasn’t just about possession.

Ethan sighed slightly. “That sounds like something she’d do. She always felt insecure about her health and didn’t want to be a burden to me. She wanted me to find a healthy woman, marry, and have kids. It was me who relentlessly pursued her till she agreed to be with me.”

“Well, that’s it. Don’t dwell on it. Go get some rest now.”

Ines stood up and ushered Ethan into the resting room. Ethan chuckled, feeling a bit fatigued, so he laid down on the bed and soon was fast asleep.

Once he was asleep, Ines headed back to the Galeana Group. On her way, Ines thought about Phoebe and decided to give her a call, “Hey, how’s everything going with you? Are you coming back soon?”

“Yeah, I’m taking the afternoon flight. I’ll be back at work the day after tomorrow.”

“How’s the situation over there?”

“No change, still in a coma. We’re waiting for a bone marrow match.” Phoebe’s mood was still low.

“So, you’re alone there?”

Gentry looked uncomfortable. “No, CEO, you’ve got it wrong. I just have someone from the sales center who used to work for me. I asked him to pay attention to her sometimes. He was the one who informed me.”

Ines observed Gentry. “Mr. Gentry, Emma is my only sister. She’s been through a failed marriage and she’s divorced now. She even has a daughter to look after. She cherishes her daughter so much. I know you might have feelings for her, but before you pursue her, you need to consider these things. If you’re not serious, don’t mess with her.”

Gentry looked at Ines earnestly. “CEO, my feelings for Emma are genuine, and I intend to marry her.”

Ines frowned. “This is what I’ve been worried about. Before you decide to marry her, you have to consider your family’s feelings. If they can’t accept her, I hope you won’t pursue her.”

Gentry was taken aback. “Ms. Ines...”

Ines looked at him. “Gentry, right now, I’m speaking as Emma’s sister, not your boss. Maybe it’s too early to talk about this, but these are things you will have to face. It’s better for everyone if you’re sure before you take this step.”

Upon hearing this, Gentry, whose foot was already out the door, held his step. Ines gave him a profound look. “That’s all I have to say. You’d better think it over.”

Gentry watched as Ines walked away. He opened his mouth to say something, but found himself at a loss for words.

Ines walked into the elevator after finishing her speech. She looked at her reflection and let out a helpless sigh. She touched her face, starting to question if she was indeed getting old. Worrying over her best friend one moment and over her sister the next, she felt she was like an old mother. Even she couldn’t stand herself. She always complained about Ethan’s never-ending chatter, but she was no better. She wondered what she would be like in a few years. Probably she would be a nagging old lady.
