Ethan couldn’t help but chuckle, admitting that he hadn’t really seen Ines clearly that night. At the banquet, she had chosen a spot in a dim, less crowded area. Later on, when he found out what had happened to her, he avoided looking at her, worrying about her embarrassment.
“So it’s really that funny? Did you know that it was my period and not a nosebleed?”
“Your excuses were so weak. I’m not a three-year-old, you know? I couldn’t be fooled by your lame excuses.” He was already 19 back then and had a good understanding of such matters.
Hearing Ethan’s words, Ines wasn’t surprised. She had figured it out not long after that night, that he must’ve known something. Otherwise, why did he lend her his coat so timely and then go to sit in the passenger seat and leave her alone in the back?
“I was unprepared and panicked that day. It was already a headache to come up with a decent excuse, let alone a plausible one.”
“It seems like fate really does have a way of its own. You stained my shirt with blood. It seems you were destined to be my wife.”
At this, Ines curled into Ethan’s arms and chuckled, “That’s really strange. But what did you do with that white shirt?”
“The housemaid cleaned it. My mom saw the blood and asked about it. I told her I accidentally scraped my back while walking, so there was the blood.” Recalling this, Ethan remembered the look of suspicion his mother had given him.
Ines burst into laughter, “You criticized my excuse. Yours is even worse.”
“Well, it was my first time encountering such a situation too. But I couldn’t just repeat your excuse to my mom, could I? Who will get a nosebleed and stain the back of the shirt?” He had never encountered such an absurd situation before and was utterly embarrassed.
Now, however, thinking back, he felt a deep sense of happiness. He had watched his wife transform from a girl into a woman.
Ines buried her face into Ethan’s chest and laughed softly, putting all the blame on him, “You were the unlucky one, Ethan. I told you to let me down, but you didn’t listen. It was not my fault.”
"You little rascal, everything’s my fault, and you’re always right,” Ethan teased, pinching Ines’ cheek.
Ines had just woken up and was already having a lengthy conversation with Ethan. Feeling tired, her voice gradually weakened, “I’m glad you didn’t feel disgusted.”
“Do you feel tired, Izzy?”
“Mhm, a bit. I think I’ll sleep first.”
Camela smiled, "That's nothing. They are the most harmonious couple I have ever seen. Their every gesture and motion are full of love. I often feel like I’ve wasted this half of my life. My husband is not even a third as good as Ethan."
"Such a husband is indeed rare. I have also been a nanny in many families. Those husbands with a bit of money are never so considerate to their wives, and they can't even take care of their child like Ethan."
"That's true; this is the easiest job I've ever had. Both little kids have been cared for by their parents since they were born. I, as a nanny, just look after them during the day. Also, there are many people helping out at home, so I am really not busy."
"No wonder Ivy and Ollie can't stay in the Meyer Mansion without them. They have been raised in this way since birth."
With Ethan’s help, Ines managed to stand on her shaky legs. As they were in the bathroom, Ines took the razor from Ethan’s hand and carefully shaved off his stubble. Staring at Ethan’s clean-shaven face, Ines clapped her hands and smiled, “That’s better. You really gave me a scare yesterday.”
Ethan’s mood was buoyant as he gazed at his wife. He gently wrapped his arms around her waist and pressed his lips to hers.
His original intent was to give her a simple good morning kiss, but the brief contact made it hard for him to let her go. He held her in such a close distance. His mouth was boldly exploring hers as they engaged in a passionate dance of lips and tongues.
Ines was equally unwilling to let go of Ethan. As she responded to his kiss, she casually reached over and locked the bathroom door. In this way, it gave them the freedom to indulge without restraint.
