Broken Memories, Intertwined Hearts novel Chapter 427

A group of them immediately went into the hospital room. The Meyer family was once again given the VIP treatment. It was a spacious room that wasn’t crowded for all of them. Phoebe practically threw herself at Ines, holding her hand to her face. Her eyes were brimming with tears as she stared at Ines’ pale face. “Izzy, you have to wake up soon. I’m still waiting for you to be my bridesmaid. Remember we promised each other? Regardless of who gets married first, the other will be the bridesmaid and the wedding bouquet must be reserved for each other. Hurry up and wake up. I’m waiting for your bouquet.

“It would be romantic to have the two little ones be ring bearers. However, if you sleep too long, they might forget who you are when you wake up. Remember, these are your children. If they get more attached to Ethan than you, you’ll be so disappointed.” Phoebe recalled Ines complaining about how the kids favored Ethan. And it seemed that Ines was very jealous of it.

“And then there are those women who are waiting for a chance to seduce your husband. You can’t sleep too long. There are even plenty of pretty nurses in the hospital who pose a threat. Although I can keep an eye out for you, I can’t do it all. You need to handle this yourself, okay?”

As she spoke, her tears fell like broken pearls.

“I’ve recently discovered a lot of delicious food and haven’t had the chance to take you to try them all. You must give me that chance. I promise I won’t trick you into paying the bill this time.”

Phoebe kept chattering away, and the men in the room couldn’t help their eyes welling up. Noel stepped forward and gently patted her shoulder, “Phoebe, don’t worry. Everything will be okay.”

Aaron just stared at Ines on the hospital bed, saying nothing, just watching quietly for a long time.

She was really a poor girl. She’d been in two severe car accidents in just a few years.

After spending some time with Ines, it was getting late, so everyone had to reluctantly leave. Ethan and Erica were the only two left in the room.

Since Ines was out of immediate danger, Ethan felt somewhat relieved. Seeing Erica looking exhausted, he suggested, “Mom, you should go get some sleep. You haven’t slept since last night. You can’t wear yourself out.” Erica might look youthful, but she was getting old anyway. She’d been tense and hadn’t noticed how tired she was until she relaxed. She agreed, “Alright, we’ll take shifts. I’ll sleep for a few hours, and you come wake me. Then I’ll take over for you. You haven’t been getting enough rest either. Even with a strong body like yours, you can’t keep going without sleep.”

Ethan nodded, “Okay, I’ll come to wake you.”

He simply took a shower and came out, sitting in front of Ines's hospital bed, holding her hand and looking at her without moving, as if only by looking at her face, listening to her faint breathing, and feeling her body temperature, could his tense heart be put back in place, feel secure, and feel a bit better.

As dawn broke, Ethan didn’t wake Erica. When she awoke naturally and saw Ethan still sitting by the bed, she blamed him, “Ethan, didn’t I tell you to wake me? Why didn’t you?”

Although worried, Erica knew that this was all they could do for now.

With Ines out of immediate danger, the Meyer family was relieved. However, after three days without any signs of her waking up, their mood became somber again.

Ethan, however, was more composed than the others. He was prepared for the long waiting; no matter how long she slept, he would wait for her to wake up.

Ethan looked much the worse for wear, which was a far cry from his usual vibrant self.

While he could endure, the two little ones were the first to break down. The entire Meyer family was thrown into chaos, trying to keep the kids calm and comforted.

No matter how Erica tried to persuade Ethan, he seemed to have put down roots here. Nobody could get him to leave. Finally, the old man couldn’t bear it any longer and called him directly, swearing at him, “You stubborn stupid. Your mom is at the hospital for now. Can’t you step away for a bit and check on your kids? Do you really have to camp out there? Your two little ones at home are from your own flesh and blood, and they’ve been crying for days. Are you telling me you’re going to abandon them too?” The old man’s voice softened as he continued, “Ethan, I’ve been in your shoes. I understand how you’re feeling. I know you care for Izzy and want to be there when she wakes up. But you can’t neglect your children. If anything happens to them, how will you explain it to Izzy when she wakes up?”
