Chapter 240
Erin’s POV
The man who had introduced himself to me as Alex was standing there in an expensive black suit, radiating power and authority that I hadn’t noticed before. My mind struggled to process what I was seeing. This couldn’t be right.
You can return to your Alpha, Alexander said to Mark, his voice ice cold, nothing like the warm tone he had used with me before. “I don’t need anyone to show me out.”
Mark hesitated, glancing between us before nodding respectfully and retreating back into the conference room.
I stood there, blinking rapidly, trying to make sense of the situation. The friendly, approachable Alex was actually Alpha Alexander of the Silverpine Pack? I watched his face, noting how his features seemed harder now, his posture straighter, his eyes colder.
“This… this can’t be right,” I stammered, my hands fidgeting with the hem of my blouse. “You’re the Alpha A–Alexander?”
His lips curved into a cold smile. “You’re so naive, little Omega.”
I felt my cheeks flush with embarrassment and anger. I’d been completely fooled, and the realization made my stomach twist uncomfortably.
“You lied to me,” I said, my voice stronger now as indignation replaced shock.
Alexander raised an eyebrow. “I never lied to you, Erin. Your memory fails you.” His voice took on a mocking tone. “I believe I said people in my pack call me Alex. You simply made assumptions.”
I realized he was technically right. Jack had mentioned that Alex was a name that commanded authority in the Silverpine Pack.
“You’re quite adorable,” Alexander said with a light chuckle. “And so trusting.”
I straightened my shoulders and lifted my chin, trying not to show how much his condescending tone bothered me. I felt stupid for not seeing through his act earlier.
“Accompany me out,” he commanded, not a request but an order.
“I’m Alpha Derek’s personal secretary,” I replied, attempting to sound professional. “I have work to do.”
Alexander’s eyes narrowed slightly. “I bet you won’t be in that position for much longer.” He tilted his head slightly. “Today is your birthday, isn’t it? I haven’t wished you well in person yet.”
I glanced toward the conference room door, wondering if Derek would emerge soon. My fingers tapped nervously against my thigh as I
considered what to do.
I weighed my options. Alexander was Mya’s brother, and I was curious about what he might know. Besides, Derek was still in his meeting, and I had nothing urgent to attend to at the moment.
“Fine,” I conceded with a small nod. “I’ll walk you out.”
We moved through the hallway toward the elevators, and I couldn’t help but notice how employees lowered their gazes as Alexander passed. Some even stopped mid–conversation, their bodies tensing as they sensed an Alpha nearby. The atmosphere in the normally bustling corridor became hushed, almost reverent.
Inside the elevator, I stood as far from Alexander as the small space would allow. I stared at the floor numbers as they lit up one by one, acutely aware of his presence beside me.
“Why weren’t you in the meeting today?” Alexander asked suddenly.
I glanced at him, surprised by the question. It was a pack matter,” I answered carefully, “Derek said I didn’t need to attend.”
“Derek,” he repeated, the name sounding strange on his lips. “Not Alpha Derek 7*
I bit my lip, realizing my slip too late. Alexander surely knew about my connection to Derek–perhaps that was why he had approached me at the party. He had been gathering information all along. The thought made me uneasy.
You know everything, don’t you?” I asked directly, watching his reflection in the elevator’s mirrored walls.
Of course I know everything,” he replied smoothly. “How long do you think people can hide their sins?”
‘Sins?” I turned to face him fully, my brow furrowed. “You think the soul bond is a sin?”
Alexander leaned closer, his voice dropping to a whisper. “I met your man today. Honestly, he’s not as likable as you made him sound.” His eyes locked with mine. “He’s far more dangerous than people imagine.”
I took a step back, bumping against the elevator wall. His proximity made me uncomfortable, and I was relieved when the elevator doors opened to the lobby. I stepped out quickly, eager to create distance between us.
The lobby fell silent as people recognized Alexander. Employees and visitors alike stopped what they were doing, their expressions a mixture of awe and fear. Some even took a few steps back, clearing a path for him.
“Let’s talk,” I suggested, wanting to get away from the watchful eyes. My heart was beating faster than normal, and I needed to understand what was happening.
Alexander nodded and led me outside. We walked to a small park adjacent to the Stone Group building, finding a secluded corner away from passersby. I sat on a bench, keeping a careful distance from him.
“Please tell her to stay away from my mate,” I said, getting straight to the point. My hands were clasped tightly in my lap to hide their slight trembling.
“Why would I do that?” Alexander asked, his tone almost amused. “You’ve inserted yourself between Mya and her fiancé. Why shouldn’t she do
the same?”
His words stung. I hadn’t chosen to come between Mya and Derek–I hadn’t even known about their engagement when I discovered Derek was my soul mate. It was the Moon Goddess who had bound us together, not my own desires. I felt a lump forming in my throat but swallowed it
