Chapter 6
When Hazel next opened her eyes, she saw a sterile white ceiling and smelled the strong scent of antiseptic
She tried to move but was immediately struck by intense pain throughout her body.
The nurse changing her bandages quickly stopped her. “Don’t move! Your burns were severe. Fortunately, you were brought in quickly and had skin grafts, so you won’t have permanent scarring. A pretty face and fair skin like yours would have been ruined otherwise!”
Hazel recalled what had happened before she lost consciousness and felt a chill in her heart. She never imagined someone
could be so malicious.
She tried to speak, but the pain left her without strength.
The nurse continued: “By the way, two incredibly handsome guys brought you to the hospital. You were unconscious, so you didn’t see how frantic they were. They’ve barely left your side during your entire coma, and were only just persuaded to get some rest. Should we wake them? They’ll be thrilled to know you’re awake.”
Hazel quickly objected: “No!”
She didn’t want to see Julian or Maverick.
The nurse nodded and left with her cart.
But not long after, Julian and Maverick rushed in anyway, having heard the news.
They both had strict hygiene standards, yet now they appeared with bloodshot eyes, unwashed shirts, and faces filled with anguish.
The moment they saw her, their eyes trembled with emotion. “Hazel, are you okay? We’re so sorry–we should have protected you better.”
Before Hazel could respond, Julian handed her a thick stack of handwritten apology letters. “Hazel, I know you’re in pain. What Rose did was wrong, but it wasn’t intentional. She’s been consumed with guilt during your coma, constantly thinking about how to apologize to you. Please forgive her.”
Hearing this, Hazel felt her palms go cold. “I’m the one who’s injured, and she feels guilty–am I supposed to be responsible for her feelings too?”
“Hazel, that’s not what I meant. Rose just wants to apologize to you.”
“She wants to apologize? Fine. Let her come and suffer the same injuries I did.”
With that, she closed her eyes, refusing to look at them anymore.
Maverick furrowed his brow, trying to keep his voice gentle: “Hazel, don’t be so harsh. Rose really is remorseful.”
“Remorseful?” Hazel laughed through tears. “If she’s so remorseful, go comfort her. Why are you in my hospital room?”

Chapter 6
Her eyes were filled with such cold detachment that she seemed a thousand miles away.
Julian and Maverick exchanged glances, sighing in resignation. They knew anything they said now would fall on deaf ears.
Maverick added reluctantly: “Hazel, I found the best doctors in the city to treat you. There won’t be any scarring. I promise.
Julian followed: “I’ve stationed Blackwell family security guards here. If you need anything to eat or use, just tell them. We’ll visit every day.”
With one last long look at Hazel lying with her eyes closed, they finally left.
After they departed, Hazel bit her lip and breathed heavily through the pain.
The painkillers had worn off the moment she regained consciousness.
Her entire body felt like it was being sliced by knives. She had forced herself to endure the pain and humiliation without showing a hint of weakness.
After what seemed like forever, Hazel’s parents finally rushed to the hospital.
“Hazel, does it hurt, sweetheart?” her mother asked anxiously.
At her parents‘ concerned words, the tears Hazel had been holding back finally spilled over.
