Chapter 90: You’re Also Responsible for Mom’s Death!
(Arin’s POV)
James sat hunched on the edge of the bed, his clothes wrinkled and hair disheveled. The angry red marks on his wrists from the silver restraints stood out vividly against his skin. Despite everything, he was still my only family, and seeing him like this tore at my heart.
“I told you, they were just rogue wolves from a neutral territory James muttered, staring at the floor instead of meeting my eyes. “I must have crossed someone’s path unknowingly.”
His wolf’s scent filled the room with the sharp tang of nervousness as he shifted uncomfortably. I’d grown up with James – I could tell when he was lying.
“Stop it,” I said, my voice hardening with each word. “Tell me the truth. Was it David Turner who sent those
men after you?”
James shrugged, still avoiding my gaze. “I don’t know any David Turner.”
The blatant lie was the final straw. After everything I’d been through, his continued deception felt like a
betrayal.
“I’m done,” I said, turning toward the door where Dominic waited patiently. “If you can’t be honest with me, there’s nothing more to discuss.”
My hand moved instinctively to my belly where my unborn pup was growing. The stress wasn’t good for either
of us.
“Wait.”
It wasn’t James who spoke, but Dominic. His calm voice cut through the tension like a knife as he pulled up a chair directly across from my brother.
“Mr. Summers,” Dominic said, his imposing Alpha presence suddenly filling every corner of the room. “We know about your involvement with Claire Watson.”
James’s eyes widened in shock, then quickly narrowed defensively. “I don’t know what you’re talking about.” “We know your relationship began before she severed her mate bond with David Turner,” Dominic continued, his silver–gray eyes locked on my brother’s face like a predator watching prey.
The color drained from James’s face instantly. His composure crumbled under Dominic’s intimidating gaze. “I… I didn’t know she was mated,” he stammered, his wolf’s submissive instincts visibly taking over as he hunched his shoulders further. “She/never told me.”
“Yet you continued seeing her after finding out,” I said, the pain of his betrayal cutting deeper th “d
expected.
James looked away quickly, his silence confirming my accusation more effectively than words could have.
Dominic leaned forward, his powerful Alpha scent intensifying until it dominated the room. “How exactly did you
and Claire Watson meet?”

Through territorial pack forums, James finally admitted, his voice barely above a whisper. She contacted me first.”
“Why would she reach out to you specifically?” I asked, genuinely confused by this detail.
James shrugged uncomfortably. “We had common interests. We exchanged photos, then started video calls on bur mobile phones.”
“And when did you discover she was Claire Watson, the renowned healer? Dominic pressed, not letting him off the hook.
“After a few weeks, James admitted, his voice growing smaller with each answer. “By then, we’d already…. connected.”
“When did you meet in person?” I asked, needing to establish the timeline.
“Only after her mate bond severance with David,” James insisted, a hint of desperation entering his voice. “After she returned to Storm Pack territory,”
I couldn’t contain my emotions any longer, my wolf bristling beneath my skin with mounting anger. “Did you introduce her to Mom?”
James hesitated visibly, his eyes darting nervously between Dominic and me like a cornered animal.
“Answer her,” Dominic said, his voice carrying the unmistakable weight of an Alpha command that filled the
room.
James flinched as though struck, the command making it nearly impossible for him to lie. “Yes,” he admitted reluctantly. “Once.”
The confirmation hit me like a physical blow to the chest. So my mother had known about Claire! That explained her extreme reaction when she saw the territorial gossip about Claire and Alexander. It explained why she collapsed after hearing Claire’s voice ori Alexander’s phone during that pack gathering.
“You introduced Claire to Mom,” I said, my voice trembling with barely contained rage, “knowing she was
targeting my mate.”
“It wasn’t like that,” James protested, raising his hands defensively. “Claire said she wanted to meet my family. She seemed genuinely interested.”
But I could see it all clearly now – the calculated nature of Claire’s actions through the entire chain of events. She’d deliberately provoked my mother’s cardiac condition, aiming to force a mate bond severance between Alexander and me.
“She used you to get to me,” I said, the realization burning like acid in my chest. “And you let her.”
“No, Aria, you’re wrong,” James insisted, rising suddenly from the bed with his hands clenche
“Sit down,” Dominic commanded sharply, and my brother immediately complied, the Alpha’s authority impossible for a lower–ranking wolf to resist.
I could barely contain my fury now, my wolf snarling within me, demanding release.
“You and Claire are responsible for Mom’s death,” I accused, my voice shaking with the force of my emotions.

James’s face contorted with anger, his features hardening. That’s ridiculous! Mom died from her disease. It was a natural progression, nothing to do with Claire.
“Really?” I challenged, stepping closer to him. That’s not what you sald when you were drunk and b me for her death.”
1 was upset,” he muttered, looking away. “I didn’t mean it.”
The hypocrisy was too much to bear. Without thinking, I stepped forward and slapped him hard across the face, the sound cracking like lightning in the room.
