Chapter 84: Overprotective Alpha
Chapter 84: Overprotective Alpha
(Aria’s POV)
“I should be the one asking this.”
Before I could respond to Eva’s hostile question, Dominic’s cold voice cut through the tension. His silver–gray eyes narrowed as he stared at his cousin.
“Why are you here? I remember that I only sent an invitation letter to my aunt Victoria.”
I could feel the sudden shift in his Alpha energy as he confronted Eva. This bidding meeting required strict verification of resources – the invitation was just one aspect. Resource verification reports and other relevant. qualification documents also needed to be accurate and complete for someone to participate.
Eva’s confidence faltered under Dominic’s stern gaze. Her lips formed a childish pout, knowing she’d been caught breaking protocol. But instead of admitting her fault, she turned her glare back to me, her wolf’s hostility evident in her scent.
“Alison Lewis doesn’t have an invitation either!” She pointed accusingly across the room. “Dominic, get her
out of here!”
“Who said I don’t have an invitation?”
A clear, confident voice interrupted Eva’s outburst. I turned to see a professional–looking she–wolf approaching us. Her white suit was simple yet elegant, complementing her purposeful stride. I immediately noticed her striking resemblance to Dr. Nathan Lewis,
Eva snorted coldly, her face twisted with disdain. “Alison, don’t pretend. The invitation is obviously from your brother. You must have sneaked in.”
Dr. Nathan Lewis, who had been standing nearby, let out a dry laugh. He coughed lightly into his hand before responding
“Well, the invitation is indeed for Alison. I am the one who sneaked in…”
Eva’s disbelief was obvious. She curled her
lips in disgust. “Alison is your sister, you must be on her side!”
I The implication that Dr. Lewis was lying was clear, and I felt uncomfortable witnessing such open hostility. “Okay, stop making trouble.” Dominic’s patience had visibly evaporated. He fixed Eva with a stern look that made even me shiver slightly. “Stay here and behave yourself.”
His naturally prominent features became truly intimidating when his expression hardened. The effect was immediate–Eva’s confrontational demeanor crumbled, and her eyes turned red with unshed tears of humiliation.
Without another word, she shot one last glare at Alison before turning and running away.
Alison didn’t bother hiding her smile of victory. Her eyes turned to Dominic with unmistakable admiration. “Dominic…
Before she could continue, Dominic turned to me, completely ignoring her attempt to speak.
Chapter 84. Overprotectiv
“Let’s go. I’ll take you to the resting den first.”
I couldn’t help feeling a wave of embarrassment. It was impossible to miss the way Allson was looking at m -her eyes held clear scrutiny and thinly velled hostility. I was suddenly anxious to avoid further
confrontation.
“Don’t bother,” I said quickly, grabbing Olivia’s arm. “Just go and do your work. I’ll stay with Olivia
Dominic smiled and took my hand directly, his warm fingers enveloping mine. “No, I have to settle you first.”
I instinctively tried to pull away, feeling uncomfortable with the public display, but before I could, Alison approached us.
“Dominic, who is this…?” Her voice was polite, but her smile didn’t reach her eyes.
“My intended mate, Aria Summers.”
The words dropped like stones in a pond. Alison’s smile froze on her face, though she quickly recovered her composure. She stretched out her hand toward me.
“Hello, Miss Summers. I am Alison Lewis, the general manager of Lewis Pack Resources.”
“Hello, Miss Lewis.” I shook her hand, feeling the slight pressure she applied–not quite painful, but definitely deliberate.
“Miss Summers looks familiar?” Her head tilted slightly, eyebrows furrowing as if trying to place me. “Did Dominic take you out before?”
I could hear the subtext beneath her innocent question. She was far more sophisticated than Eva or Vanessa Lockwood in her approach, but her intent was clear–she was trying to establish how long I’d been in Dominic’s life.
Unfortunately for her, she’d chosen to do this right in front of him.
“Why are you talking so much today?” Dominic interrupted sharply. He turned to Dr. Lewis with obvious impatience. “Didn’t I tell you to bring someone else?”
Dr. Lewis spread his hands helplessly. The second option is busy…”
Dominic clearly didn’t believe this excuse. He pointed an accusing finger at his friend, who immediately made an exaggerated gesture of surrender.
Without another word to either Lewis sibling, Dominic took my hand again. “Let’s go.”
When we finally reached the private resting den, I quickly pulled my hand free from his grasp. My palms were starting to sweat from the interaction. Pretending to be mates in this high–stakes environment was definitely not for the faint–hearted.
“I asked someone to prepare some food in advance,” Dominic said, gesturing toward an elegantly arranned platter on the coffee table. “You can eat first.”
I nodded gratefully, suddenly aware of how hungry I was. My pregnant wolf was constantly demanding nourishment these days. “Dominic, you should hurry up and get busy…”
He smiled, the expression softening his usually serious features. “Okay, I know. You eat first. I’ll come to pick you up later.”
“Okay.”
Chapter 84: Overprotectiv
As soon as the door closed behind him, Ollyla pounced on the food, immediately stuffing several delicats moon–berry pastries into her mouth.
“Dominic was so domineering in protecting his she–wolf just now!” she teased, her eyes sparkling with
amusement.
I grabbed one of the pastries and promptly shoved it into her open mouth. “Eating can’t stop your mouth!
“Hmm…” Olivia patted her chest, struggling to swallow. When she finally managed it, she gasped, “I’m not wrong! Didn’t you see that Alison Lewis? Her face was about to turn green…”
Unlike Olivia, who seemed to find the whole situation entertaining, I felt genuinely worried. This pretense of being Dominic’s intended mate was creating enemies I never asked for.
“I’ve never even met Alison before, and now we have mutual antagonism,” I sighed.
“Hey, by the way…” Olivia’s expression turned thoughtful as she reached for another pastry. “Have you noticed that Alison looks a bit like you? When I first saw her, I thought I saw you!”
