“Are you talking about David Turner?” Dominic gently moved my hair from my forehead, his voice deep and reassuring. His powerful Alpha presence wrapped around me like a protective shield, offering comfort in this difficult moment.
“What your brother James did indeed was enough for David Turner to retaliate in such a way,” he continued, his silver–gray eyes studying my face with careful attention.
The sky outside had darkened completely, and the shimmering lights on the distant road looked like a tranquil, undisturbed galaxy. The peaceful scene contrasted sharply with the turmoil in my heart.
I sighed deeply, the weight of reality settling on my shoulders. I knew that my brother had acted unjustly towards the Turner Pack, and that his current suffering was his just punishment. The Turner Pack had been destroyed because of his actions, their members scattered or worse.
Yet, as one of the few remaining relatives I had in this world, seeing him in his current state pained me deeply. My wolf whimpered softly within me, responding to my distress over my pack family’s condition.
“What, do you want to ask for an explanation?” Dominic asked, his silver–gray eyes searching my expression for any sign of what I was thinking.
I shook my head firmly. “My brother was certainly at fault first; I can’t blame anyone for retaliating against
him.”
The words felt heavy on my tongue, but they were true. James had made his choices, and now he was facing the consequences. It wouldn’t be right for me to seek revenge on his behalf.
Dominic held my hand, a doting smile spreading across his face. His Alpha scent wrapped around me protectively, offering the comfort I desperately needed.
“You don’t have to worry about whose fault it is,” he said gently. “If you feel uncomfortable, just tell me. Your Alpha is very capable; at least he has the power to deal with a fallen pack family.”
Seeing Dominic’s arrogant and confident look, I smiled helplessly. His unwavering confidence was both endearing and slightly overwhelming. He truly believed he could solve any problem that came our way.
“I’m not that magnanimous,” I admitted honestly. “My brother’s current predicament makes me feel stifled, but
now it’s like we’re even with David Turner,”
I paused, collecting my thoughts, “All I want now is to cure my brother’s illness. I want him to recover, to be himself again.”
Dominic stroked my hair, his touch gentle despite his commanding presence. “Don’t worry, I’ll hire the best werewolf psychiatrists to treat your brother. He’ll definitely recover.”
I instinctively parted my lips, gratitude welling up inside me. But before I could utter “thank you,” Dominic poked my nose playfully.
“Don’t be so formal with me, Mrs. Blackwood,” he teased, his eyes twinkling with affection. “Are you hungry?”

“I’m hungry…” I couldn’t help but frown as I remembered our interrupted shopping trip. “But we didn’t pick up the venison…”
“Don’t worry, I asked the butcher to send everything back to our territory,” Dominic assured me with a satisfied smile. “Let’s go, I’ll cook something delicious for you.”
In the following days, I lived a three–point existence: home, herbal remedy company, and Silvercrest Hospital. My routine had become predictable but necessary, each location serving a different purpose in my new life.
My brother’s condition began to improve under the werewolf doctors‘ careful treatment. The specialized care was making a difference, though progress was slow. However, Dominic, concerned that my brother might harm me in his unstable state, kept me from getting too close.
I could only observe him from a distance, my pregnant wolf needing protection from any potential outbursts. It was frustrating to be so close yet unable to truly connect with him.
As I watched Dr. Marcus Thompson emerge from the consultation room, I quickly went up to him. Dr. Thompson was a skilled werewolf psychiatrist who specialized in treating psychological trauma affecting werewolves. His reputation for helping wolves recover from severe mental injuries had made him Dominic’s first choice for James’s treatment.
“Doctor, how is my brother James?” I asked anxiously, searching his face for any sign of good news.
“Your brother’s mental state is good; it’s just that his wolf is still affected by the trauma, so it will take some time for further observation,” Dr. Thompson explained patiently.
My heart eased slightly, relieved that both his human consciousness and wolf were slowly healing. The separation between human and wolf consciousness was dangerous, and I was grateful that the connection was being restored.
“By the way…” Dr. Thompson seemed to have suddenly remembered something important. His expression grew more serious as he continued.
“Do you know someone named ‘Alexander Reed‘?” he asked, his professional demeanor sharpening.
I was surprised. I didn’t know why this werewolf psychiatrist knew Alexander’s name. The question caught me completely off guard.
“Yes,” I nodded, then paused for a moment. The name still brought up complicated emotions. I pressed my lips together and said, “He’s my former mate…“.
“Former mate?” The doctor frowned slightly, his interest clearly piqued. “Then what’s your former mate’s relationship with your brother?”
“Not good,” I replied honestly. That was putting it mildly, but it was the simplest way to explain their
complicated history.
Dr. Thompson nodded thoughtfully/his professional mind clearly working through the implications. “What’s
wrong, Doctor?” I pressed, sensing there was more to this line of questioning.
“Nothing much. I just heard that name from your brother’s mouth, and when I mentioned the name to him again, his mood suddenly became very agitated, his wolf becoming extremely distressed,” he explained.
I frowned in confusion. My brother and Alexander had always had a difficult relationship, that much was true. However, in my opinion, their relationship was merely one of mutual dislike, not to the point of outright

hostility.
Now, my brother didn’t even recognize me, yet he reacted so strongly to Alexander’s name. The situation made no sense. I felt like something was amiss, but I couldn’t quite figure it out.
“Then has my brother mentioned David Turner’s name?” I asked, hoping to understand the full scope of James’s reactions.
“David Turner?” Dr. Thompson couldn’t help but frown slightly, then shook his head at me. “No.”
I lowered my eyes in disappointment. If James truly didn’t react to David Turner’s name, then my theory about the source of his trauma might be wrong.
“What’s wrong? Does this person have some connection to your brother?” the doctor asked, noticing my
reaction.
I nodded reluctantly. “I suspect that the werewolf named David Turner is responsible for my brother’s current
condition.”
“Okay, I understand. I’ll try mentioning that name to your brother someday to see if he reacts,” Dr. Thompson promised.
“Thank you, Doctor,” I said gratefully.
After leaving Silvercrest Hospital, I headed straight for the herbal remedy company. The familiar routine
helped ground me after the confusing conversation with Dr. Thompson.
At this point, the company’s operations were stabilizing, and the previous Northern Medical project was
proceeding in an orderly manner. The success of our collaboration had brought new opportunities and
steady growth.
However, perhaps it was just my imagination, but Jason Hart seemed to be in low spirits these days. To the
extent that he, who never made mistakes during remedy preparation, had made several errors recently.
“Jason…” After the herbal processing session finished, I watched Jason exit the laboratory and quickly went
after him.
“What’s wrong?” he asked, turning to face me with a tired expression.
“Want to go downstairs for a coffee?” I offered, taking the initiative. When I first started working at this herbal
remedy company, I was fortunate to have Jason’s help. Otherwise, I wouldn’t have been able to manage the
projects to their current stable state on my own.
Jason was momentarily stunned, then nodded. “Let’s go.”
Once we arrived at the coffee shop downstairs, I only ordered an orange juice. As I was pregnant, caffeine
was definitely off–limits for werewolves carrying pups.
“Jason, have you encountered any difficulties recently?” I asked directly, without beating around Dush,
