Chapter 108: He Regretted It

(Aria’s POV)

As I was thoroughly enjoying the creative insults werewolves were hurling at Claire and Richard online, my mobile phone suddenly rang.

“Alexander Reed,” the smile froze on my face like Ice cracking.

My wolf whimpered anxiously within me, sensing my sudden tension.

Olivia, who had been laughing at another particularly vicious comment, noticed my expression change. leaned over curiously.

“What’s wrong? Whose call?”

When she saw Alexander’s name displayed on my screen, her brows furrowed deeply.

“Why is he calling you?” she asked, her voice filled with disgust.

I instinctively hung up without answering. But almost immediately, the phone rang again. Alexander’s name flashed insistently on the screen.

“Persistent bastard,” I muttered under my breath.

I declined the call again. But he called a third time.

My patience finally snapped. I accessed my phone settings and blocked his number completely, feeling a blessed sense of peace wash over me.

“There,” I said with satisfaction. “Problem solved.”

But moments later, an unknown number appeared on my screen. The phone rang with that unfamiliar caller

I stared at it, knowing with absolute certainty it was Alexander using a different number.

Olivia sighed in exasperation. “Just answer it and see what he wants: If you don’t, this Alpha will probably keep calling from different numbers. You can’t just keep blocking him forever, right?”

She was right. Given Alexander’s stubborn nature, he would continue harassing me until I spoke with him.

Taking a deep breath to steel myself, I answered the call.

“Hello?”

Silence greeted me from the other end. I could hear breathing, but no words.

Just as I began to wonder if it really wasn’t Alexander after all, his familiar voice finally spoke.

“The recording from the marking ceremony preparation,” he said, his tone accusatory and cold, “that was you and Dominic who released it, wasn’t it?”

His direct attack surprised me, though I quickly recovered my composure.

“Evidence?” I scoffed, my voice dripping with disdain.

Chapter 108 He Regretted.

Alexander’s volce dropped to a dangerous low register.

“No evidence needed. To manipulate a ceremony like that, with that level of technological capability, looking across the entire Northern Territory, besides Dominic, no one else could pull it off.”

I remained silent, wary of his attempt to fish for information. I wouldn’t give him the satisfaction of confirming his suspicions.

“Is that all you called me for?” I asked coldly.

“No…” Alexander took a deep breath, and I could hear him struggling to suppress his anger.

“Aria, do you know how much your childish revenge cost the Storm Pack’s territory contracts? Ten billion

moon–silver! A full ten billion!”

A laugh burst from my lips before I could stop it.

“Only ten billion? That’s too little!” I replied with gleeful malice.

“Aria!” His voice cracked with fury.

“Alexander!” I retorted sharply. “Instead of wasting time harassing me, why don’t you clarify the rumors between your intended mate and your father! See if you can salvage your precious ten billion!”

My words seemed to deflate some of his rage. When he spoke again, his voice was more controlled, almost

resigned.

“Claire and I have already called off our marking ceremony,” he said quietly. “I will have Claire get another prenatal paternity test done…”

I couldn’t resist twisting the knife deeper.

“Don’t,” I said with mock concern. “What if they’re innocent?”

“You…” Alexander sounded genuinely helpless for the first time in our conversation.

He took a deep breath and remained silent for so long I wondered if the call had dropped. Finally, his voice came through, softer and somehow more vulnerable.

“Aria, I’ve been thinking these past few days, how did we ever get to this point?”

The sudden shift from business to personal caught me off guard. I frowned, immediately suspicious of this new tactic.

“I don’t have time to reminisce,” I said impatiently. “If there’s nothing else, I’m hanging up…

Alexander laughed, but it was a bitter, desolate sound that made my wolf whimper with unexpected sympathy.

“Aria, are you so impatient with me now that you can’t even bear to say one more word?”

His voice carried a note of genuine pain that I hadn’t heard in years. For a moment, it reminded me of the Alexander I’d fallen in love with as a teenager.

I quickly pushed that thought away.

“Alexander, our mate bond is already severed,” I replied expressionlessly.

“But I regret it…”

The words hit me like a physical blow. I couldn’t believe what I’d just heard.

Regret? Alexander regretted severing our mate bond?

In our entire relationship, I had always been the one in the inferior position. I had bent over backward, twisted myself into impossible shapes, just to make Alexander dislike me a little less.

Love? That had been something I didn’t even dare dream of.

But now, Alexander was telling me he regretted letting me go. The irony was so bitter it made my stomach churn.

I took a deep breath, trying to suppress the rage building in my chest like molten lava.

“Alexander,” I said, my voice steady despite the fury coursing through me, “I am not your second choice. Don’t call me again!”

Without waiting for his response, I hung up immediately. Then I blocked this number too, throwing my mobile phone aside with more force than necessary.

“Truly, shameless wolves are invincible!” Olivia exclaimed indignantly.

Her eyes blazed with fury on my behalf. “He and Claire are truly a match made in hell. I suggest they lock themselves together, forever united, and live happily ever after! Don’t come out to harm others!”

I took several deep breaths, trying to calm myself. Alexander’s call had shaken me more than I wanted to admit.

The audacity of that wolf! To think he could just call me and expect… what exactly? That I would come running back to him?

But this conversation with Alexander did have one silver lining. Claire’s scheme had finally fallen through completely!

Moreover, Alexander was indeed doing exactly what Dominic had predicted. He was questioning the accuracy of that prenatal paternity test and would have Claire undergo another screening.

At this rate, he would probably discover within a few days that he wasn’t going to be a father, but an uncle!

The thought brought a vicious smile to my lips.

“I really want to go to the hospital to watch the show now…” Olivia mused, her eyes gleaming with mischief.

There’s nothing like seeing Claire and Richard, those scumbags, face their comeuppance!”

Olivia’s suggestion sparked my interest. There truly was nothing more satisfying than witnessing Claire and Richard in a state of absolute chaos.

Plus, Alexander had just mentioned getting another prenatal paternity test. The timing couldn’t be more

perfect.

“How about we call Dr. Nathan Lewis?” I suggested, warming to the idea. “Ask him to find out which hospital Claire is at! Then we can go and enjoy the show!”

Olivia hesitated. “Isn’t that too much trouble for Dr. Lewis?”

“What’s the big deal? Friends help each other out, right?” I said, trying to convince both her and myself. “At most, we can also help Dr. Lewis find his missing sister sometime; it’s a win–win situation!”

When she saw I was still hesitating, she immediately reached for her mobile phone.

“Fine, If you won’t call, I will!

I quickly grabbed her hand. “No, I’ll do it.”

I dialed Dr. Lewis’s number, my heart racing with anticipation.

The call connected quickly, and Dr. Nathan Lewis sounded genuinely surprised to hear from me.

“Miss Summers? This is rare, you’re calling me directly? What’s up? Do you need something?”

I felt a bit awkward about making such a request, but pressed on anyway.

“It’s nothing major, really. I just wanted to ask, Dr. Lewis, do you know which hospital Claire was sent to?” “Yes, Silvercrest Hospital, Obstetrics and Gynecology ward,” he answered without hesitation.

Then he seemed to recall something important, and his voice became excited.

there to see…”

“What’s happening?” I asked urgently, my curiosity now fully piqued.

“Claire tried to commit suicide again! She’s in the emergency room right now!”
