As the alcohol warmed her belly, Esther could no longer discern the face in front of her and began giggling foolishly.
"What are you laughing at?" James asked.
"Nothing. I think you're handsome, so I want to look at you more," Esther replied.
James lowered his head and held her chin. "Do you know who you're looking at?"
"James."
At her words, he immediately let go of her chin. "Seems like you're not that drunk after all."
Esther tilted her head back, blushing but still smiling. "How could I mistake you? I could never make that mistake."
"That's great," James replied. He felt slightly relieved.
"Oh, by the way, there's something I've never told you, and I still don't want to tell you," Esther said.
"If you don't want to tell me, then you shouldn't have brought it up in the first place," James replied.
"Well… I want to tell you something."
There used to be a child who embodied their love, but fate took him away. This had become a pain she could never forget.
"Don't overthink. It's not your fault," James reassured her, his voice trembling slightly because he knew the child was his. He also knew that he was partly responsible for the child's death.
Now, James finally understood the suffering Esther had endured. He didn't like to cry, but at that moment, tears fell uncontrollably. "I'm sorry, Esther. I'm sorry…"
