Chapter 13
Priscila grabbed the imperial edict from Waldo’s hand, and as she opened it, she was momentarily shunned. 16 Waldo’s engagement.
Your Priscilla looked at Jessica, speechless for a moment, unable to say a word.
s the king’s edici la anma
She thought, “Hasn’t Jessica long coveted the position of Princess? Is she really asking the King to break off the engagement? How could that be possible?”
“What exactly… do you want?” Waldo glared at Jessica, his voice grating, as if it had been forced out through clenched teeth.
Earlier, he had threatened to break off the engagement, but that was merely to scare her into accepting the condition of marrying on the same day as Priscilia.
In reality, he had never intended to annul the mariage. He had decided on their union years ago. From the moment he saw that eight–year–old girl, with her delicate, almost sculptural features, he knew she was the one.
As she grew, she bloomed into a graceful, etherent beauty–like a flower rising from the water, pure and untouchable. She was the perfect ideal in every
man’s heart.
If the engagement were broken, this perfect girl might end up married to someone else. And if that happened, Waldo would feel like something priceless from his own family had been defiled
He would rather keep her by his side, in his own house, forever. But now, here she was, holding the King’s decree.
“So, today General Garbisch went to the palace to see the King for this?” Waldo’s voice turned icy. “Jessica, how many more things are there that I don’t
know?”
He expected her to explain, but instead, she just smiled faintly and replied, “There’s a lot you don’t know, Your Highness.”
“Jessica!”
“Do you think she really wants to break the engagement with you?” Priscilla sneered, incredulous. She thought, ‘How could anyone be like Jessica, indifferent to fame and fortune?
“Women are so shallow! If Jessica doesn’t care about those things, why isn’t she crying or making a scene when the man she loves suddenly has another woman by his side?
L’Her calmness is just a way to manipulate him!‘
“Bastard, she’s using this to force you to give in to her! You’re the war god of Novigrad, and yet you can’t see through her tricks!”
Waldo’s face turned crimson with anger. “I’ve dealt with women like her before! Don’t try your manipulative tricks on me! I’m not one of those fools who can be blinded by your charm!”
Priscilla let out a cold laugh and, with a sharp movement, slammed the edict to the ground.
“Enough!”
“Priscilla!”
Her action made both their faces change in an instant
Waldo tried to stop her, but the edict had already been thrown onto the floor by Priscilla
“Someone!” Jessica suddenly stood up.
Thursday picked up the edict, glaring at the defant Priscilin, wanting to scold herbal unsure where to start.
Finally, his angry gare fell on Jessica “She’s from the underworld! She knows nothing why are you wasting your time with her
“I’m not wasting my time. But will report this to the King and let him decide.
Being from the underworld wasn’t a free pass for Priscila. She had destroyed the edict—she deserved to face the consequences.
Jessica was curious to see just how many lives Priscilla had, and whether they’d be enough to save her from the King’s wrath.
Priscilla, seeing Waldo’s furious expression and watching hiin treat the edict with such reverence, probably realized the severity of her mistake. But she refused to admit it.
“You’re forcing me like this, using every trick in the book. You’re just afraid I’ll take revenge, aren’t yout Jessica, you’re nothing but a hypocrite!”
“You are so obsessed with seeking revenge?” Jessica’s eyes narrowed, and the anger in them was impossible to hide. “Fine. Il give you the chance to act on it yourself!”
