Unmasking Mrs. Newton's Secret Identities novel Chapter 2006

"Don't worry, Zac's target is me. He won't harm Jenson," Chandler said, trying to offer some comfort.

Still, the mention of Zac cast a heavy, unsettling silence over the room.

"Tomorrow is the deadline. If we don't find him, does that mean we'll have to follow Zac's demands and broadcast a murder live?"

A hundred lives hung in the balance. What kind of twisted mind would make such a demand? If they agreed, how were they any different from Zac?

But if they refused, Jenson's life would be in jeopardy. No matter what decision they made, it felt as though there was no right answer. Abigail couldn't shake the feeling of helplessness.

Helen lowered her gaze, letting out a heavy sigh. The situation they were facing felt strikingly similar to the well-known train dilemma in psychology.

A runaway train was speeding toward two diverging tracks—one with five children tied to it, and the other with just one. As the conductor, which track would one choose?

Five lives were at stake on one track, but only one on the other. Regardless of which path one took, someone would die.

No matter the choice, guilt would hang heavily on their hearts. It was an impossible dilemma, one that Helen couldn't bring herself to resolve.

But now, it seemed they had no choice but to act.

"If it comes to that, there's nothing we can do," Chandler said nonchalantly, adjusting Helen's cup. "I can't just stand by and watch my brother die."

His words echoed through the room, and a heavy silence followed.

They had all entertained the possibility, but the sheer weight of morality had kept the thought at bay. Yet Chandler spoke about it with such ease, as though it were a foregone conclusion.

Abigail exchanged a look with Germaine, both of them seemingly in agreement that Chandler wouldn't hesitate for a moment if it came down to it.

The next morning, he brought James and Reggie along, assigning them to ensure her safety. Only when he was certain she was well cared for did he leave to handle other matters.

By 10:00 am, the doctor had completed his rounds and confirmed there were no complications. Helen instructed Reggie to handle the discharge paperwork.

Meanwhile, after two days of relentless nausea, Julia could no longer ignore her symptoms and decided to visit a hospital in secret. She played it smart, opting for a smaller, well-reviewed clinic on the outskirts instead of a large hospital.

After her check-up, her suspicions were confirmed—she was pregnant.

Julia had suspected it for the past week but had been too afraid to confront the truth.

She had been with Zac for seven years, and they had always taken precautions. Zac wasn't particularly fond of children, so pregnancy had never been a concern.

But this time, it came as an unexpected surprise—and for Julia, it was a joy she welcomed with open arms.
