Unmasking Mrs. Newton's Secret Identities novel Chapter 1960

"Huh? Really, Mr. Newton? You're not joking, right?" James was over the moon.

"I never joke about stuff like this," Chandler said nonchalantly, leaning back against the couch.

"So you're planning to let this mistake stand?" Helen smiled.

"You know me best, honey," Chandler admitted. "Our relationship with the Hollands is already shaky. Even if we're willing to offer compensation after such a big misunderstanding, Stanson might not accept peace. In that case, we might as well go to war."

"Mr. Newton, you're brilliant! We have to let the Hollands know that we're not to be trifled with!" James exclaimed, flexing his biceps.

Meanwhile, the Holland family was holding an emergency meeting late into the night.

A group of people sat around a dimly lit room, all directing their frustrations at Stanson.

"They've named you specifically to demand you to hand over the hostages. Why are you still playing dumb?"

"I told you long ago not to provoke Destiny Corporation, but you insisted on going your own way. Now look, they've wiped out the place. Who's going to take responsibility for this massive loss?"

"Do what you can handle. If you can't bear this burden, step down and let someone else take over!"

The room buzzed with sarcastic remarks, all overtly or covertly blaming Stanson for jeopardizing the family.

Listening to their incessant complaints, Stanson finally lost his temper. He slammed the table and roared, "Have you said enough? If anyone has a problem with me, show yourself and speak up!"

At his outburst, the room fell silent.

It was one thing to gang up on him, but standing out as a target was a whole other matter. Stanson was notorious for his ruthlessness, and none of them wanted to be the victim of his wrath.

Glowering at everyone in the room, Stanson continued, "I'm giving you a chance now. If you don't speak up, don't blame me for showing no mercy if I hear another word of this in the future."

They were taking advantage of the two's struggle for power to gain the upper hand. They might appear foolish, but they were actually shrewd.

"700 million dollars? That's not all, is it? Those ancient Cathayan artifacts are priceless," Demna shot back, refusing to back down.

Clenching his jaw in fury, Stanson slammed the table and sprang to his feet. "Then I'll just take them back by force! If I can't, then I'll stake my life on it. Happy now?"

"Why are you so worked up?" Demna asked. "I'm just trying to be fair. It's nice that you still care about our family's belongings—that's all that matters, in fact.

"If you really can't retrieve them, just apologize to everyone. I'm sure we all understand. Do you think we'd actually demand your life? We'll understand. It's not like we really want you to kill yourself.

"Right, let's dismiss. Let Stanson have some time to himself."

After throwing a tirade of sarcastic remarks at his cousin, Demna left with the rest.

The room, which had been packed to the brim earlier, was now enveloped by silence.
