"From what I understand, the Glendale Piano Association issues its certifications every two weeks, and today isn't one of those days. I'm curious, Mr. Tebow, where exactly did this certificate come from?"
An awkward silence fell over the room. Everyone exchanged uneasy glances, and the once harmonious atmosphere turned heavy with tension.
Katie's friends quickly jumped in to defend her.
"What do you know? This is how things work around here!"
"Sure, the rules are strict, but exceptions can always be made. With a talent like Katie's, the association would definitely bend the rules. Do you really think they'd let someone like her go unnoticed?"
"I bet you're just jealous of Katie's success. It's obvious you want to undermine her future just to feel better about yourself."
Initially, Katie felt a pang of guilt, but as her friends spoke with such conviction, she realized she was the one who had been wronged.
Her nose tingled, and tears welled up in her eyes as she began to sob quietly.
"Kaylee, I know you resent Dad for favoring me, but I've never done anything to hurt you. Do you really dislike me this much?"
"Well, experts notice the subtleties, while amateurs just enjoy the show. Ms. Kaylee, since you're on the outside looking in, it's best to simply observe and keep your opinions to yourself. It could save you from future criticism. Don't you agree?" Robert chimed in, pretending to look out for Helen.
Helen smirked, though her eyes were icy. "I just called the Glendale Piano Association, and they confirmed they have no record of you being the vice president. Should we go confront them together right now?"
The color drained from Robert's face, his smirk vanishing in an instant.
"You must be out of your mind!" Diana interjected, wrapping her arms protectively around Katie. "Why are you questioning everything? Do you think this is some kind of TV drama?
"If Mr. Tebow is an actor, are you suggesting that all of Katie's classmates are actors too? Abraham, look at your daughter! She's trying to tear Katie down. Are you really just going to stand there and do nothing?"
"I'm a member of the Glendale Piano Association, yet I've never heard of you as vice president or of these so-called classmates," Chandler's voice echoed, hitting each guilty party like a sledgehammer.
"Is Chandler really a member of the Piano Association?"
"I'm not sure; I've never heard that before."
"I believe it's definitely possible. With a natural prodigy like him, there's nothing he can't achieve…"
"Possible or not, I just find this all too coincidental!"
The woman who had previously encouraged Katie to resort to drugging stepped forward. "We're all certified members of the association—how can there be any doubt? I suspect you're just here on Kaylee's orders to cause trouble!"
What did a handsome guy matter? If this "association" fell apart, she wouldn't see a single cent of her allowance in the future. She knew exactly what was at stake.
