The next morning, in the underground parking lot of a luxury apartment building, Germaine sat in her newly repaired sports car.
Her fingers tightly gripped the steering wheel as she spoke to herself, "It's been two weeks, and I can't afford to get lost again. I need to remember the route. Left when I leave, right at the intersection, then left, right again, and finally left. I've got it now!"
After repeating the instructions to herself a few times, she took a deep breath, started the engine, and drove out of the parking garage.
In the shadows, a black BMW slipped out behind her.
Germaine drove to the intersection, waiting for the traffic light. "Right, then left, right, then left…" she murmured to herself.
Before long, the light turned green.
Germaine turned the steering wheel to the right. After a short distance, confusion washed over her. "What comes after the right turn again?"
"Right out of the intersection, then… another right turn? Yes, right, then right again! Got it!"
As she made the next right turn, she found herself on a completely unfamiliar street.
"Where on earth am I?" she exclaimed, bewildered.
In an attempt to challenge herself, she had intentionally left her phone behind, and now she felt foolish. Leaning forward, she squinted into the distance, hoping her instincts would guide her to a solution.
She pressed straight ahead, making several U-turns until she finally spotted a familiar downhill slope. Victory felt close, and she hit the gas.
But as she zoomed out of the alley, she suddenly realized a river lay ahead. Panicking, she slammed on the brakes, but it was too late.
At that moment, a black car came barreling in, and she crashed into its side with a violent impact. The black car was left with a significant dent, but miraculously, both vehicles halted just inches from the water.
Not able to hold it back any longer, he burst into laughter. "I can't believe the esteemed Ms. Lloyd is actually a terrible navigator! Who would've thought? This is hilarious!"
Germaine's face flushed with embarrassment. It felt like Jenson was going all out to exploit her weaknesses.
She narrowed her eyes, a spark of mischief lighting up within them. In the next instant, she strode over and cornered Jenson against the car.
"What are you doing? Are you trying to silence me for good?" he asked, eyeing her warily.
"If you so much as whisper about this, I'll make sure you regret it," Germaine threatened, her expression tightening with resolve.
Jenson swallowed hard, an unexpected wave of guilt washing over him. His voice quivered as he warned, "I suggest you think twice! I have three brothers and a sister-in-law at home. If anything happens to me, they won't take it easy on you!"
