Noticing how cold Hera's gaze had become, Everly realized the danger she was in. She was perched at the end of the tree branch, so she would be the first to fall if anything were to happen.
Below them was a pit that seemed bottomless. There were no branches in sight! If she were to fall, she wouldn't be as lucky as she was earlier.
"I'm sorry, Hera! I apologize! I know that I was wrong! I shouldn't have let greed get to me. I was blinded by the benefits the Chime family offered. I shouldn't have acted impulsively. I know I was wrong. I'll change!
"Please give me a chance to make up for my mistakes! I'll tell you where Mrs. Jones is. Please show mercy! I don't want to die!" she pleaded, tears of desperation pooling in her eyes.
If she could, she would've been on her knees by now.
Despite the pain from the wound on her leg, Hera moved to change to a comfortable position. She tore off a strip of her shirt to bandage it. Then, she took her needles out to stop the bleeding.
Noticing that her plea was ignored, Everly grew frustrated. She had already apologized and yet Hera was still acting so highly and mighty in this life-or-death situation.
Everly's body slid down again, and she panicked. "I know I was wrong. If you let me live, I swear I'll do anything for you. I'll atone for my sins for the rest of my life."
After stopping the bleeding, Hera raised her head. "Who supported you?"
Everly was stunned as she didn't expect that question. Her survival instincts prompted her to blurt out, "The Killians."
Hera frowned when she learned that someone in the Killian family still wanted her dead. "Who?"
Everly took advantage of Hera's curiosity. "I'll tell you after you pull me up!"
Hera's indifferent eyes studied her before she stretched out her right hand. "Give me your hand."
Overjoyed, Everly knew that her tears had never failed to soften people's hearts.
Hurriedly, she lifted her left hand to reach for Hera's right hand. She completely forgot about the unhealed wound on her right hand! It was impossible for a wounded hand to solely hold a person's weight.
