"Everly!" Wayne clenched his fists. "Where exactly are you hiding Mrs. Jones? You'd better release her and surrender! I've already called the police. Once they arrive, you'll be punished by the law!"
"I knew you wouldn't cooperate!" Everly's expression darkened. "It won't matter even if the police come. You won't find Mrs. Jones! And she'll die if anything happens to me!"
Hera's expression darkened. She instinctively reached for her side. Just then, she heard Aaron's voice in her earpiece.
"Hera, don't act recklessly. We've located Mrs. Jones, but there are mercenaries around, and they've set bombs. Keep Everly occupied and buy us some time while I arrange to deal with the mercenaries and the bombs."
Hera trembled at the mention of bombs. Although the last bomb hadn't exploded, she had felt its power. Her left hand was still not very agile, so she absolutely couldn't let Catherine get hurt.
Hera felt reassured that Aaron was there. She pulled Wayne away and feigned a trembling voice. "What do you want?"
Everly thought Hera had grown fearful. She knew Catherine was Hera's weakness! This was how she had grabbed hold of Hera's fate.
A triumphant smirk crept onto Everly's face. "I can let you know where Mrs. Jones is. Let's have a competition. If you win, I'll tell you where she is!"
"What kind of competition?" Hera asked.
"There are many wild herbs on this cliff. We'll both go down. And in half an hour, whoever collects the most types and the most herbs overall wins!" Everly pointed to a platform jutting out over the cliff. There were two ropes on it.
"Sure," Hera agreed readily.
"This is too dangerous! You can't go!" Wayne immediately grabbed Hera.
This place had previously been used for bungee jumping. After years of neglect, the terrain had not been checked. The cliff below was bottomless. If someone jumped down and an accident happened, it would be fatal. Everly chose to do this to ensure Hera's death!
