Meanwhile, Shaun had taken Samantha to the underground garage. He pulled one of the car doors open and took her into the car. Then, he began driving away without a destination in mind.
Shaun had no idea where he was planning to take Samantha. As soon as she appeared, the first thing that came to mind was that he would elope with her immediately.
Samantha sat in the passenger seat, gripping the seatbelt tightly. She wasn't sure if it was the running earlier or the sight of Shaun that had caused her heart to race wildly.
Neither of them said a word while heading toward the east. However, both felt as if their emotions were going through a rollercoaster.
It was evening when Shaun had driven the car to the beach. Since there was nowhere else to go, he parked the car.
At that moment, the sun was setting over the sea. The red hues of the sunset took over the entire sky, reflecting on the ocean surface. The scenery was breathtaking.
"It's so beautiful!" Samantha couldn't help but open the door and get out of the car. She walked toward the shore, letting the waves splash on her shoes.
The cool sea breeze caressed her face, and her feet were drenched by the icy cold seawater. However, Samantha felt exceptionally excited and joyful.
Shaun got out of the car as well. He felt extremely peaceful as he watched Samantha's figure against the sunset. Was this what they meant by escaping to the end of the world?
"Didn't you say you wouldn't be coming?" he asked while approaching her.
Samantha looked back and saw his sloppy appearance. She found it funny, so she couldn't help but laugh.
"Oh, well. I—" Samantha was about to explain that she happened to be passing by. Just as she started speaking, Shaun suddenly stepped forward and held the back of her head, kissing her firmly.
Samantha was startled, but she stood on her tiptoes and wrapped her arms around Shaun's neck, kissing him back fervently. It was as if they were trying to make up for their separation of five years in one kiss. They kissed passionately, unwilling to part from each other.
It seemed like a century had passed before they reluctantly moved away from each other. They leaned their foreheads against one another, staring at each other with affection in their gazes. Their breaths were labored and seemed to mingle with one another.
"But did you bring your identification card?" Samantha suddenly questioned.
Shaun suddenly recalled he didn't and frowned. "Oh, no."
"What about your passport or driver's license?"
Shaun went through the glove compartment and became certain that he took nothing with him in his hurry to escape. He didn't even take his phone, which usually never left his side.
Since he was too excited, he only realized that he left these things behind after arriving at the beach, which left Samantha speechless.
Hotels wouldn't allow them to book rooms if they didn't have any identification.
In the end, Samantha used her phone to book a bed-and-breakfast nearby that had less stringent requirements. They would stay there for the night.
